Chapter 34: Reach

"Mama… mom… I want to leave…"

"There was a time when I had a home. I remember lying in a comfortable bed, waking up to the warm smell of freshly placed food on the table, but not feeling pain."

"My clearest visual memory is of my mother leaving."

"Mom, I hate this place, I want to go home!"

"You are already home."

"Her face was a blur; I can no longer remember her features… unlike the man who handed her a small leather bag."

CLING

"When the package changed hands, I heard a noise… the sound of the clinking is as clear in my mind as the taste of what I ate this morning."

"That was the last time I saw that woman."

"The next time I opened my eyes, it was all dark. My hands were chained."
