Chapter 6 - Strange Sister

Both students had absent expressions when a person walked into the room. She had fierce orange eyes and cropped blonde hair. Upon seeing the two spaced out on the bed, she sighed and began an immediate conjecture.

The school tyrant, Li YueYing.

Her recent-transfer brother, Zi FengXin.

Had Li YueYing forced FengXin into doing drugs with him?!?! The female student's sharp eyes rounded in shock.

She'd have to give her brother a harsh beating later.

Nurse X… clearly existed.

The biggest indication lay in the platinum oval glasses half-shattered on the floor. Those belonged to the nurse, YueYing had no doubt. However, Zi Fengxin pretended they didn't exist, or maybe, just maybe, he didn't see them at all….

YueYing glanced at the infirmary desk, with report papers scattered about. He might find clues related to Nurse X's existence. The more YueYing thought about the nurse, the more a phrase the nurse said bewildered him:

"Explains why there's this black aura around you."

"You have something weird attached to—"

Almost as if Nurse X could sense the supernatural, and tried to warn YueYing before the System consumed him whole.

Now that the shock had subsided, grief overtook YueYing like a wildfire. His vision blurred and he wiped at his eyes.

"Li YueYing." A husky, androgynous voice whispered in YueYing's ear.

His head jerked to the right—FengXin remained motionless, lost in his own world; he couldn't have said anything—then to the left…

FengXin's exact replica stared at YueYing with upturned eyes. Everything except her hair, which had purple highlights, resembled FengXin, from her honey-coloured irises to her boy's school uniform to even her shoe size. Like a clone, or a doppelgänger.

"Li YueYing, what did you do to my brother?" She sneered, reaching out to grab his collar.

YueYing's arms shot up into the air.

"I did nothing." He leaned back, rejecting the twin's movements, almost squashing FengXin in the process.

[ 'Storyline Progression: -103%' ]

The girl froze. Her eyes fixated on the lavender screen. She recalled her hand, looking at YueYing with peculiarity.

"What's this?" She pointed at the System window.

YueYing gulped down his shock. Could this twin see the System? What if it ate her like it ate Nurse X? The nurse got consumed when he pointed the System out, YueYing had to distract FengXin's doppelgänger at any cost.

"What do you mean?" His eyes glazed away from the screen and to the floor. "What are you looking at?"

"This." The clone tapped the big '-103%' at the middle of the window, extinguishing any chance YueYing had in denying her knowing of the System.

The woman's shadow wriggled behind her, becoming an endless void.

Panicked, YueYing smacked a hand to her mouth.

[ 'Storyline Progression: -102%' ]

Her immediate response included gripping YueYing's wrists with such a force that his hands lifted on their own. The girl seized the System window on both sides and pushed it at YueYing.

"You can see this." Her authoritative tone gave her a threatening aura. YueYing agreed with a timid nod.

[ 'Storyline Progression: -103%' ]

What a stingy System.

Hesitant to let go, the girl eyed YueYing, rolling her eyes over him multiple times. After a while, she let it go, and it flew back to its original position.

"Well, it doesn't have anything to do with why you drugged my brother, right? So I don't care." The void hiding in her shadow bubbled and dissipated, leaving a splotch of grey in its place.

YueYing wondered if the System chose who to consume based on how much they cared about it. The girl before him didn't have a sliver of interest in the System, rather choosing to focus her attention on her spaced-out brother and the broken platinum glasses on the floor. Compared to the chatterbox sophomore, she had a mature disposition.

"Why was FengXin with you?" In another turn of her punk-like character, she began interrogating YueYing.

"FengXin?" He repeated, committing the name to mind.

YueYing didn't know FengXin's name until now, having referred to him as 'the sophomore' ever since they met.

He never had the chance to learn a stranger's name again during his bedridden highschool days. He would remember FengXin until the day of his second death.

When a second System screen popped up in front of YueYing, he noticed that the 'Protagonist Affection' metre had shot up by 10%. He connected this to his newfound identification of FengXin's name. A new skill had unlocked as well, did the cheery and childlike FengXin have so much power?

But why did the button next to the notification look like a scam….

YueYing remembered his parents' warnings about clicking weird links on the TV. He'd done it once, then the screen filled with laughing smiley faces and he never clicked suspicious links again.

He decided to ask the Kaomoji-loving demon interface later what to do.

"Not clicking it?" The girl had rolled herself over to the cot next to YueYing's. From her blue trouser pocket she took out a pack of cigarettes. YueYing's face turned pale.

On top of her rebellious nature, she even smoked? A flash of sorrow ran through YueYing for his university-principal parents.

"What." She held the cigarette between her teeth, fumbling around for a lighter. "Don't look at me like I'm breaking the rules. Nurse X doesn't care."

"Nurse X?!"

"Yeah, the old man. By the way, why are his glasses on the floor? Nothing happened to him, right?"

"..."

YueYing classified FengXin's sister as an anomaly.

"Speaking of, I told a friend I'd be visiting his office, and she looked at me like I was hallucinating." The lighter clinked thrice in her hand before emitting a small orange flame. "I bet she's never been sick before. That's why she doesn't know who Nurse X is."

Not just an anomaly, a System-breaking abnormality. YueYing stood and took a step back.

"What's wrong? You haven't met Nurse X either?" The girl sighed. "No wonder you're the school's little tyrant, you can just lick your wounds and go home to recover."

She could see the System. She remembered Nurse X even after the System altered the nurse's reality.

What type of a monster did FengXin have for a sister?!
