Chapter 8.1 - Home

[ Let's go home! ヾ(≧∇≦) ]

The infirmary door flung open, revealing the velveteen bedroom YueYing had first opened his eyes in after his rebirth. He took wavering steps towards the door.

The soft mattress supported YueYing's heavy body as he lay down on the bed. He still wore his school uniform—he couldn't muster the strength to change out of the mesh-y fabric.

[ Get up! We still have work to do! ٩(^ᗜ^ )و ´- ]

[ Mr. Li? (´。• ᵕ •。`) ]

[ Little Tyrant~~~ (O_O;) ]

In YueYing's dream, he saw the image 'God' projected when he awoke in the void: Yueying, his parents, and a strange man sat around the dining table, smiles on their faces as they passed a silver ladle around the steaming hotpot. However, the gradient void blurring the stranger's face dissipated just the slightest bit, revealing the lower half of his face which held a gentle grin.

YueYing watched as the man's arm wrapped around him in a tight hug. His parents averted their eyes, conversing with each other in hushed voices. The YueYing of this snapshot leaned into the man's embrace, clinging to his crisp collared shirt like a child.

What nice friends. YueYing remembered cuddling his friends in middle school much like how this dream YueYing held the stranger.

But why did his parents pretend not to notice them?

YueYing felt relieved to see his parents again, even if just through a dream. He'd never seen them make expressions like they did in 'God''s holograph, and while his inability to interact hurt his heart, watching their rejuvenated faces and their carefree smiles brought warmth and peace to YueYing's mind.

The fantasy lasted for only a moment before reality whisked YueYing away. He awoke to his itchy school uniform scratching at his skin, painful like little ant bites. Half asleep, he tugged the shirt off and pulled on his silk pyjamas, rubbing his torso and legs to relieve the lingering torture.

[ Awake? (눈_눈) ]

The System's messages filled YueYing's vision like pop-up ads.

"Mmm…." YueYing blinked away his haziness.

[ You made me watch you sleep for three entire hours… ( `−ㅿ−´) ]

YueYing somehow felt the need to apologise, even though his fatigue originated from the System's many requests.

[ Anyways, a lot happened today, I'm just proud of you for finding the 'Protagonist'! (´▽`ʃƪ)♡ ]

[ Even though you binded to the wrong character, managed to summon the System HQ, and dropped your plotline progression to -103%! ( ◉ _ ◉) ]

[ Now, how did that happen? (¬、¬)]

YueYing looked away. Why did he feel guilty?

[ HQ hasn't told me anything though… except to stop torturing you, so you're in the clear for now! ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ ) ]

He almost forgot the System's violent attitude.

"Can we talk after I sleep…." YueYing didn't want to think right now: He'd used more brain power today compared to his last life's one month ill in bed.

[ Oh. (⊙_☉) ]

[ Ok. (⊙_☉) ]

"Really?" He did a double take, glancing at the screen multiple times before confirming the System's genuinity.

[ I suppose you've worked hard enough getting me in trouble, goodnight (o_O) ]

The sky outside glowed violet in the early midnight. YueYing hid in his velvet blankets, wondering what the next day had in store.
