Chapter 11 - Immortality?

He shook his head. The coin most definitely had a story. This was the best time to call on his System!

System!!

[ Pah! (°ロ°) ]

As soon as the purple holographic screen popped up, YueYing thought like rapidfire.

You know the storyline, can you give me any hints about this coin?

[ Not really—I don't remember anything about this school—but apparently the plot after we meet Zi FengXin is supposed to become more intense… ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ ) ]

Can you give me any spoilers? And what do you mean by 'remember…?'

[ Nope! But I'll unlock the outside world for you soon, look forward to it!! (˶ˆᗜˆ˵) ]

The outside—

"Li YueYing." The librarian slammed his fist on the table like an Ace Attorney character.

YueYing's head swivelled up to meet the librarian's confused and agitated expression.

"What are you thinking about?" He questioned the senior again, exerting a bit of force in his words.

[ You made him mad? (¬_¬") ]

The System suddenly went quiet after this message, leaving YueYing to watch the drama from afar.

YueYing could feel a bead of metaphorical sweat run down the side of his face. He swallowed, keeping a consistent staring contest between himself and the librarian, and opened his mouth.

Just as YueYing was about to answer, though, a certain energetic sophomore burst through the door with two drinks in hand.

"Little Tyrant!!! I bought you the peach drink!! I bought myself one too! It looks really good! My mouth is watering! Did you need anything else?! I'll get it for you right now! I think there was a café nearb—kugh!" FengXin's words abruptly cut.

The librarian held the sophomore's collar, suspending him in the air.

"Mr. Librarian?! What's wrong—eeep—" Even FengXin shut up when he saw the librarian's face. Let alone YueYing, who'd gone quiet long ago.

"Zi FengXin." The librarian gritted his teeth, his words long and low. "You really have a good habit of barging in at the right time."

"M-M-Mr. Librarian, I—" FengXin was confused; why was the librarian so aggressive?!

He looked over to YueYing. YueYing looked to the floor, clasping his hands together in prayer for the lively sophomore.

The librarian smiled, releasing his grip. FengXin dropped to the floor like a sandbag, terror etched into his face. He was one entire head smaller than the librarian, how could he not feel intimidated?!

And Li YueYing, FengXin looked to him again, was almost one-and-a-half heads shorter than Mr. Librarian. How was he still alive?

FengXin somehow recalled that the librarian was sitting when he first entered the library.

Oh, well that explains it.

Meanwhile, YueYing faced a dilemma as well: When the librarian stood, his menacing aura brought back memories of the first time the two met. Not only was the librarian tall, but he was also strong, and as he dropped FengXin, YueYing suddenly wondered if he was a gangster in the past.

The librarian's irritated gaze flew to YueYing.

Eek—

"So you don't remember anything at all." His eyes became troubled.

Just what did the librarian want him to say? YueYing froze on the spot, trying to think of a proper response.

Although… he felt like if he said yes or no, his head would go flying either way.

The librarian sensed YueYing's internal struggles and softened his expression.

"I won't say it's no matter, so I'd like to schedule a time to talk to you. Do you have a study class? You can come to me then."

This 180-degree flip in attitude scared YueYing more than the coin. He once again felt that, if he responded that he didn't attend classes, his head would land on the floor before he could register how he died.

Watching YueYing's hesitant eyes, the librarian sighed.

"I thought it might be different this time."

[ 'Main System Warning.' ]

[ 'Main System Warning.' ]

[ 'Main…' ]

[ 'System Warning Terminated.' ]

Li YueYing: "..."

Li YueYing: "???"

YueYing waved away his confusion and continued to watch the librarian. The librarian stared back, with an expression unknown to YueYing.

Zi FengXin finally recovered. He staggered onto his knees, his hands supporting him from the floor, becoming a human table. The librarian glanced at FengXin and looked away.

"Get up. Or I'll sit on your back."

FengXin had never stood faster in his life.

YueYing broke eye contact with the librarian, wondering how he got his job. Or rather, how he kept it, with such a rough and direct speaking style.

Well, this was his only chance to leave. He quickly gathered courage and took a deep breath.

"If that's all, then FengXin and I will be going now." YueYing sped to the sophomore, took his hand, and pushed the wide library doors aside.

The librarian just watched.

"Little tyrant, did I do something wrong?" FengXin turned his watery eyes to YueYing as he lay face-down on an infirmary cot.

"No…" YueYing sighed, taking a seat across from Nurse X. "Um."

The nurse smiled at YueYing. "Surprised?"

"A… a little bit. You…"

"Mhm, I do remember!" The nurse exclaimed chipperly.

"Huh?"

FengXin was suddenly intrigued as well. "What are you two talking about?"

"Uhh." YueYing turned away from him again. That poor, ignorant soul….

"Here's a little secret." Nurse X leaned towards YueYing, whispering in his ear:

"I'm immortal. Hahah, do you believe it?"

YueYing's face blanked. He thought he could believe anything at this point, but.

Actually, it did make sense.

"Really?!"

Nurse X could see metaphorical sparkles radiating from the senior.

"Mhm."

"What did Nurse X say? Hey, Little Tyrant!" FengXin ambled to YueYing's side, flitting about, trying to gain his attention.

YueYing didn't pay any mind to FengXin, which discouraged the sophomore a bit, but he simply pulled another chair to YueYing's side and sat down to listen.

"That's all I have to say!" Nurse X brought both of their hands up and straightened back into their own seat. "Sorry, boys!"

Zi FengXin had looked so excited, but when Nurse X refused to elaborate or talk any more, he slumped defeatedly.
