Both of them were familiar with that voice.
One of them looked up while the other turned around, and they saw Nick holding a phone and car keys in his hand, with a YSL bag in the other. He was dressed in a white shirt and jeans, looking like he was out shopping.
His expression was cold now, and his eyes were filled with anger as he stared at Nerida.
At that moment, it seemed like he wanted to kill her.
Zoe took the opportunity to withdraw her hand, which had been squeezed red.
Nerida's tears flowed faster, and she pushed the chair aside and stood up, saying, "I went to your house yesterday, but you weren't there. Your aunt said you were out with your grandfather."
She tried to change the subject.
Because Nick's gaze was cold, looking at her like she was an ant.
Colder than when they were dating, she felt like she was nothing to him.
Nerida's face paled, and she subconsciously grabbed the chair to support herself.
Nick didn't look at her again, but turned his gaze to Zoe.
Zoe was also slightly unnerved by his stare. She glanced at her phone, stood up, and said, "I'm going to go shopping first. You guys can talk."
With that, she turned to leave.
Nick grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms. Zoe stumbled a few steps, fell into his chest. Nick turned her face, making her face Nerida, and said, "Tell her, Leo doesn't deserve you, only I am the most suitable for you."
Zoe was startled, looking at Nerida's pale face.
She couldn't help but sigh, "Nick, where do you get your confidence from?"
Nick's face darkened a bit, but he didn't look at Zoe, instead staring coldly at Nerida, as if it was all her fault.
Nerida had never been looked at like this before, and she almost couldn't hold herself up. She pointed at Nick, "Are you crazy? She doesn't like you, and you're forcing her. Do you know what people at school think of you and how they look at her?"
Nick, where's your pride?"
It seems that although Nerida went abroad, she was very clear about what happened at Haicheng University and even read the forums often.
No wonder she knew so much, even about Leo.
Upon hearing this, Nick's lips curled indifferently, "I'm willing to be a lowly person for her. Why should I care about what others think of me? Nerida, you should be glad you're a woman, otherwise, I'd kill you."
The last sentence was even colder, with a dark and sinister tone.
Even a man would tremble in front of him now.
Not to mention Nerida, a woman, she stood there with tears in her eyes, almost collapsing.
Zoe frowned at Nick, but it wasn't her concern. She broke free from his embrace and turned to leave. Nick didn't even look at Nerida, he just turned around and followed Zoe.
And with a grab, Nick thrust the shopping bag into Zoe's arms, filling her embrace. She was startled and tried to throw it away, asking, "What is this?"
Nick replied coldly, "Lipstick."
Realizing it might be for her, Zoe immediately threw it onto a nearby table and hurried out. Nick picked up the bag and chased after her again.
Behind them, Nerida watched and listened, her face pale. Women are particularly sensitive to cosmetics and skincare products, especially well-known brands. From the moment Nick appeared with that bag, she subconsciously wondered who it was for. She was afraid it was for Zoe.
And indeed, it was for her.
Nerida covered her face and let out a cry, tears streaming down even faster.
As he chased Zoe out, Zoe, though walking hurriedly, didn't forget that she still needed to buy something. So she turned into Walmart on the second floor, and Nick naturally followed.
Their pace was no longer as hurried as before. Zoe glanced at him sideways and lowered her head to choose some meat. Nick stood lazily beside her, watching her selection.
He pointed to another piece of meat and said, "This one is good."
Zoe pretended not to hear.
Nick's eyebrows furrowed slightly, showing impatience. He asked, "What did Nerida say to you?"
Being reported by an ex-girlfriend, Nick was probably the only one.
Zoe paused with the meat in her hand before handing it to the supermarket cashier. She couldn't resist asking sarcastically, "What do you think she would say to me?"
Nick looked at the smile on her lips, blatantly mocking him.
He arrived late and only heard Nerida pleading with Zoe, but knowing Nerida's character, there must have been some build-up before that.
Thinking about this, Nick's eyes became even colder. He rubbed his lips and said, "If you have any questions, ask me directly. Don't listen to others' words."
"Especially Nerida's."
Zoe took the weighed meat and put it in the trolley, saying, "I think she's right."
"What did she say?"
Nick snatched the trolley from her and pushed it. Zoe tried to take it back, but he pressed down on her hand, gripping it tightly, so they both pushed the trolley together.
Looking like a couple, Zoe suddenly pulled her hand away. If he wanted to push, let him push, and she kept her distance from him.
"Talk."
Nick looked at her sideways, his eyes dark and menacing.
He wanted to hear what Nerida had said that Zoe found agreeable.
Did she say that Leo was more suitable for her?
He squeezed the trolley handle, suppressing his anger.
Zoe smiled and said, "She said you're a cold-blooded animal, unable to cherish or care for women, and you never give women gifts. You have no heart, only your pride..."
Nick's face grew darker as he listened.
Zoe stopped talking when she saw his expression changing.
After a while, Nick pointed to the bag in the trolley and said, "Isn't this a gift?"
The YSL logo on the bag was highly visible. Zoe immediately shut up, remembering that Kaylee had posted about this brand of lipstick last night.
Nick looked at her expression and sneered, then said, "I don't cherish you? I don't pamper you? I have no heart?"
"Do you want to try?" His words stung Zoe's ears directly.
Zoe felt her face flush red as people around them started to stare, all eyes focused on the two of them. Nick was tall and imposing, exuding an air of nobility, clearly not the type to be wandering around the meat and vegetable section. This made him even more eye-catching.
Zoe quickly grabbed some carrots and corn and threw them into the trolley, taking a few quick steps forward.
Nick looked at the clothes she was wearing today. Simple and elegant, the sweater was slightly loose, covering her hips, but when she walked, the curve of her hips was visible. He narrowed his eyes and followed, then leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Did she also tell you that I never kissed her?"
Zoe paused in choosing peanuts.
Nick sneered, "But I kissed you, didn't I? Many times..."
"Nick, shut up!" Zoe couldn't hold it in and shouted at him.
Nick sneered mockingly, "So, do you still think what she said is right?"
This conversation was impossible to continue.
Every word Nick said hit Zoe's tender spot. Everything he hadn't done with Nerida, he had done with her. It was better not to mention it, but when Nerida did, it highlighted even more the differences in Nick's treatment of the two of them. Zoe had originally tried to blur and ignore it, but this comparison made it even more apparent.
She quickly finished shopping for groceries and daily necessities, then went to check out. Nick lazily pushed the trolley and even picked up a pack of candy.
Zoe glanced at it.
Nick raised his eyebrows, "Can't smoke at your house, so I can't even have candy?"
"Did I invite you to my house?"
Nick sneered and didn't answer her foolish question.
There was a long queue, so they had to wait for a while. The two of them silently moved forward until they reached the checkout counter.
The cashier glanced at Nick and blushed, asking, "Do you have a membership card?"
Zoe pushed her way through and replied, "No, how much is it?"
"Yes."
Nick handed a card to the cashier, a black and gold Walmart membership card.
The cashier looked at Nick and quickly processed the payment, then reminded him, "You have a lot of points on this card. You can go to the counter over there to exchange for gifts."
Nick didn't respond, just scanning his phone for payment. Zoe wouldn't let him pay and gave the cashier cash instead. Nick didn't say anything, lazily leaning against the side, looking like he was waiting for his wife to pay.
Zoe took the change and Nick had already grabbed her large bag of groceries. He pursed his lips and told Zoe, "Get my phone and car keys."
This man was ridiculous. Taking the shopping bags instead of the car keys and phone? Which one was more important?
Zoe didn't want to engage, but seeing as he showed no intention of picking them up, she reluctantly reached back and grabbed her phone and car keys, holding them in her hand. Nick was finally satisfied.
With people coming and going, Zoe didn't want to argue with him. She quickly walked towards the elevator, and Nick, with both hands full of bags, followed easily with his long legs. Outside the main entrance, Zoe handed him the keys and phone, "You go drive the car, it's not far for me to walk from here."
Nick licked his lips and raised his eyebrows, "I'm going to your place."
Zoe: "..."
"Do you think I bought this lipstick for nothing? I specifically bought it for you." He held up the bag, "It's the new Golden Bar this year..."
Trying to tempt her with lipstick? Zoe wasn't falling for it, but she couldn't get rid of him either. He wasn't going to drive, so he just followed her.
When Zoe stepped onto the stairs, she suddenly turned and looked at Nick, gritting her teeth, "Can you be honest?"
She wasn't as repulsed by Nick's presence as before. After all their back and forth, the imprint he left on her heart had grown deeper. The familiarity was also increasing. Maybe it was the loneliness of the holiday, and his appearance gave her a little more sense of existence. So, she wasn't repulsed. But she was still nervous. Afraid that he would suddenly be dishonest.
Nick stood on the lower step, squinting, "Do you think I'm being dishonest?"
Zoe: "You know best."
Nick raised his eyebrows, "You be honest first, then I'll be honest."
Zoe: "..."
What a waste of words! When had she ever been dishonest?
Just as she was shocked, Nick took two steps forward, stepping onto the stairs. Zoe instinctively stepped back, her waist pressing against the railing. Nick leaned close to her, his narrow eyes full of mockery and playfulness. He lowered his voice and whispered in her ear, "You probably don't know, but when I'm really not honest, you won't even be able to get out of bed..."
After saying that, he licked his lips, his eyes filled with ferocious animalistic desire. Zoe's breathing stopped instantly.
"So, cherish the moment. I'm really being honest now." Nick chuckled, his thin lips gently brushing past Zoe's earlobe, like a feather. It made Zoe's body tremble.
She pushed him away, panicking, "Please stay honest like this forever."
"Alright." He agreed casually.
Zoe: "..."
Was she dealing with a wolf?
