Chapter 54- It Wasn't A False Mark

Rafael settled in the front seat of his car, leaving the door ajar. He indulged in his cigar and closed his eyes, allowing the familiar plume of smoke to swirl around him, a habitual attempt he always exercised in order to calm his short nerve endings, but today, it offered little to no comfort.

He had hoped that loosening himself a bit would grant him temporary escape from his haunted past, but every time his eyelid fluttered shut, a chasm of despair threatened to swallow him whole, hence, getting some sleep wouldn't even be considered a suitable option at this point.

He shouldn't have come here.

"Jerome." He called his wolf's name, seeking its presence, and on a regular day, his wolf's response was indifferent, however, it seemed attuned to the sorrow in his voice. Jerome's uncharacteristically gentle voice resonated in his mind.
