Chapter 43 Elaine's Fear

  As Elaine woke up the following day, she still couldn't fathom what had happened the day before.

  She tried to convince herself that it was all just a dreary nightmare, but when she shut her eyes, Sherman's words kept resounding in her mind, "Find a way to make her leave in peace."

  Elaine felt her heart bleed as she gazed up at the ceiling, her eyes wide open, taking in the intricate painting that depicted a paradisiacal landscape with scores of little cherubs fluttering about.

  Whenever Elaine cast her eyes on her pregnant belly, she pondered what her offspring would be like and basked in pride that she could provide Sherman with an heir.

  But now, she realized that all of the warmth that Sherman had shown her was solely for the sake of the child in her womb, and that she was nothing more than a tool of production.
