Employee rules

"I have to make a trip to Europe, it's a mission." Lin Feng tried to imagine himself as a special agent, dressed in a black windbreaker and wearing large sunglasses. When he spoke, his face was so serious that he hardly looked like himself. Regardless, being an employee of the Time and Space Management Bureau could change a person's behavior—he was particularly conscious of his image now, but only when in front of these two abnormal creatures at home.

Muyun's entire demeanor brightened instantly, as if an invisible tail behind her was wagging vigorously. "Going out to play? I'm free, I'm free!" It was just as Crow12345 had said; there was no need to worry about this fool refusing.

Vivienne's attention, however, was elsewhere. "Oh, so being an air conditioner can save on electricity bills? Okay, okay..."

Lin Feng felt that this useless vampire's focus was completely off. "Can you cool and heat as well?" Muyun glanced at Vivienne, who was surrounded by a refreshing cold air, blowing even more cold than an air conditioner. "If you can save on heating bills in winter, it will definitely cover your rent."

Vivienne thought for a moment, trying to save face. "Vampires are naturally cold creatures, so creating some cold air is okay..."

"Cough, let's get back to the point." Lin Feng quickly brought the conversation back on track. "Muyun, are you coming with me? And what about you, Vivienne? If you're free, you should come too. I'm not familiar with Europe."

Lin Feng was telling the truth. Not to mention Europe, he had hardly traveled far in his life. Apart from knowing the southern suburbs like the back of his hand, anything beyond the Third Ring Road felt like another world to him. This was his first time planning to go abroad, and it was a "task assigned by the organization," so naturally, he was a bit excited. He thought to himself, 'I'm practically a civil servant now, even if it's in a foreign country.'

"Me? I don't have anything to do." Vivienne lowered her head slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed. "I just lost the job I found a few days ago, so I'm free. Landlord, if I act as your guide, can that cover half of my rent for half a month?"

Lin Feng smirked. "Can you at least maintain some dignity as a vampire? Never mind about being a noble of the night, just try to keep up the standard of a millionaire of the night! Even Muyun, who's fallen on hard times, can't bear to see you like this..."

"Don't worry about the rent," Lin Feng sighed. "I signed a contract to sell myself to Crow12345. How could I kick you out? If you're willing, just help with some chores at home and I'll be satisfied. As for finding a job... I suggest you stop bothering those businesses that are about to go bankrupt. I heard that when you worked at McDonald's, God made sure you continued to be poor by killing off hundreds of food enterprises..."

Vivienne coughed. "That's not my fault!"

Meanwhile, Muyun, still immersed in the excitement of going out, transformed into her werewolf form, vigorously wagging her tail (perhaps this was the only way she could express her special mood). "Landlord, when are we going out? Should I pack now? Where are we going exactly? How long will we stay? Is there a deadline for the task? Also, when are we eating?"

Lin Feng waved his hand to calm down the overly excited werewolf. "Don't rush, I haven't even booked the plane tickets yet. Let's wait for Crow12345 to send the specific information. Oh, right, let me show you something fun—this is high-tech! It's standard equipment for employees of the Time and Space Management Bureau... Wait, where did I put it?!"

Lin Feng searched through his pockets, sweating profusely. He distinctly remembered stuffing the extraordinary data terminal into his pocket, but now all he could find were two loose threads!

"This is bad!" Lin Feng realized the consequences if such a futuristic gadget fell into the hands of ordinary people. It could summon a protagonist from 'Beyond the City and the Stars,' or perhaps a super expert from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, but most likely, it would result in Crow12345 dropping from the sky to smash him to death. This would definitely be a major work mistake!

Just as Lin Feng was frantically searching for the missing terminal, ready to go out and look for it, he suddenly heard a faint buzzing sound beside him. Then, a small vortex-shaped space door appeared in mid-air, and the hexagonal "data terminal" squeezed out of the vortex and fell into his hand, accompanied by a holographic subtitle in mid-air: "User, please note that when carrying this device, do not discard it randomly on transportation vehicles. The device has limited navigation capabilities—this is not something a data terminal should do! If you do this again, I will report to the authorities."

Lin Feng: ... Now he understood what Crow12345 meant by "not much dumber than you." This data terminal seemed to have its own artificial intelligence! At least he had never heard of another computer that could curse at its owner...

Muyun was immediately attracted by this fascinating gadget. Her tail wagged excitedly, and her eyes sparkled as she approached. "Landlord, can I play with this?"

Lin Feng thought for a moment and confirmed that there were no prohibitions against this in the core rules he had read before, so he cautiously handed over the data terminal. "Be careful, even though Crow12345 said it's sturdy, if you break it, there's no way to get it fixed."

Muyun took the data terminal excitedly and fiddled with it for a while, but it didn't respond at all. Finally, seeming to have had enough, the data terminal reluctantly displayed a line of text: "Insufficient permissions, don't bother. I have integrity."

Everyone present: ...

Vivienne was glad she had controlled her curiosity earlier and didn't embarrass herself by asking for it like a bumpkin. She chuckled awkwardly and went to the kitchen. "Big dog, you keep playing. I'll go cook."

Muyun sheepishly returned the data terminal to Lin Feng, then suddenly remembered something and ran to the kitchen as if she had just thought of it. "Wait! I'll go with you!"

"You can cook? I thought you only knew how to eat."

"I'll go to the kitchen to cool down, it's too hot inside."

...

While Vivienne and Muyun were busy in the kitchen, Lin Feng studied his new data terminal. He mainly wanted to know what the Time and Space Management Bureau actually did. However, as he read on for more than half an hour, he became increasingly shocked.

It started with normal work rules, some taboos, but the later regulations and case studies were difficult to understand:

"Observation and guidance procedures for Type III civilizations"

"Registration method for new end-of-the-world scenarios"

"Guidelines for strictly regulating the declaration process of local wars"

"Considerations for inspectors intervening in stellar wars"

"Basic knowledge of extinction orders and the role of inspectors in corresponding procedures"

These were just some of the

mind-boggling things at the end of the basic work rules.

"Consultation matters." Lin Feng knew his data terminal could communicate, so he cautiously asked in his mind, "These things that seem particularly high-level... What do they mean?"

"Literal meaning." A line of text appeared on the data terminal, "However, these are things that official inspectors need to deal with, so they are temporarily irrelevant to you. Inspectors are the empire's agents in local areas, equivalent to living saints or holy sons in religious systems. Is there a problem with handling these daily tasks?"

Lin Feng immediately said he had no problem and went back to calm his pounding heart.

By the afternoon, he had temporarily put aside those high-level "employee guidelines," as they could happen at any time. For now, he needed to focus on completing his "mission": Crow12345 had already sent the detailed mission details.

His destination was England, but not a famous place. It was a remote town that couldn't even be found on the map, where his new tenant was waiting for him.
