The moonlight was hazy, and the night was deep. The desolate wilderness lay silent and empty, with only the sound of flapping wings echoing from high above. The vampire girl, with bat wings on her back, swiftly flew through the sky. Moonlight scattered over Vivian, enveloping her in a vague halo of light and shadow, completely concealing her vampire aura. Uncertain if the haunted castle would attract real demon hunters, Vivian was highly alert. She used the power of the moonlight to conceal her own aura throughout the journey.
Lin Feng, dangling under Vivian's armpit as they flew through the sky, felt excited. "Actually, at first, when you said you would carry me while flying, I refused. I couldn't just fly because you said so. At least you should let me adapt. I didn't want to be lifted up..."
Vivian's voice came from above, interrupting him, "Speak normally."
"...without some mental preparation, Sister! I hadn't agreed yet, and you already took me so high. Ordinary people can't handle it!" Lin Feng nervously expressed his concern about the altitude.
"You seem to be handling it just fine," Vivian said, glancing down at Lin Feng. She had pulled him into the air before he could react. There was no hint of apology in her tone. "You can enjoy it secretly. It's not often that ordinary people have this privilege. Do you think we vampires enjoy carrying passengers? It's heavy and troublesome."
Lin Feng chuckled silently. Although being flown in the air by a girl made him feel a bit embarrassed, there was no one else around to witness it. He decided to treat it as a novel experience. Just as he was nervous when Vivian first pulled him into the sky, afraid that the vampire might drop him halfway due to exhaustion, he now saw that Vivian, after all, was not human. Although she couldn't compare in strength to Muyun, it was quite easy for her to grab an adult and fly dozens of kilometers.
Looking down at the ground below, which was high up, Lin Feng could still see the situation below clearly with the help of the moonlight. He noticed a small figure in silver-white below him, running directly beneath them. It was Muyun. To keep up with Vivian's flight speed, Muyun had transformed into her werewolf form and remained on all fours, with her silver-white tail and hair flowing behind her.
What was astonishing was that the werewolf girl was still asleep—she was following them here with her eyes closed. Even Vivian was amazed at Muyun's tracking ability. This girl could keep up with a flying vampire purely by smell while asleep. This proved that despite her appearance as a complete idiot, Muyun actually possessed an astonishing "hunting" talent, which she was unwilling to develop. Otherwise, with just this tracking ability, she would probably be one of the top hunters among werewolves.
The three of them arrived at the ruins of the ancient castle of Jorford in such a miraculous way. Along the way, besides avoiding the main roads and traversing through the wilderness, Vivian also had one of her bat avatars following behind Angus's car from a distance to ascertain the movements of the people in the car. Fortunately, everything went smoothly. The people in the car did not notice the werewolf and vampire traveling so openly together. Even the well-dressed Mr. Nangong didn't show any reaction, not even looking out the car window.
"That's the Jorford Ancient Castle." After flying for an unknown amount of time in the night, Vivian's voice suddenly came from the side. Lin Feng looked up and saw a pile of rubble on a high ground ahead. The castle had collapsed completely, making it impossible to discern its original appearance, but one could still see its former grandeur from the size of the stone pile. "Let's land here."
Vivian landed Lin Feng steadily on the ground. Lin Feng quickly bounced a few times in place to loosen his stiff limbs from being carried for so long. Although it was still summer, being exposed to the night wind at such a high altitude for over an hour was not comfortable. Lin Feng felt like he would freeze if he hung in the air for a while longer. As he was rubbing his slightly sore arms, preparing to head towards the castle, a silver-white figure suddenly rushed past him like a gust of wind, picking up countless pieces of grass and sand.
Lin Feng and Vivian stared blankly as the white figure dashed out for several hundred meters in the blink of an eye, then crashed into a large rock in the distance...
With a loud rumble, the sturdy giant rock several meters high was shattered as if hit by a cannonball. Faintly, there was a muffled groan from Muyun, who was obviously in pain. Lin Feng hurried over in a few steps, but what he saw amidst the gradually dispersing rubble and dust was the werewolf girl rolling on the ground, rubbing her head: Muyun was finally completely awake, although not naturally.
Vivian was stunned. "Her head... she could work as a wind hammer at the quarry! Werewolves really do have muscles for brains..."
Muyun, in a sorry state, got up from the ground. Her normally perky ears were now only one standing, while the other drooped lazily on her head, indicating that she had hit her head. The werewolf girl was covered in dirt and debris. As she shook her head, stone chips fell off her hair. Despite her sorry appearance, she was in good spirits. After wiping her face haphazardly, she grabbed Lin Feng's arm and shook it, "Landlord, do you think I can keep up? That winged one bragged about how fast she could fly, but she's not much faster than me!"
Vivian tossed her hair, "Of course, I'm carrying a person. Next time, you carry the landlord, and I'll fly in the sky. Let's see who's faster."
"Don't mess around, let's focus on the task." Lin Feng pressed down on the two superwomen to quiet them down. He then noticed some lights gathering from a distance, seemingly moving towards them from the dark side of the wilderness. He quickly pulled Muyun and Vivian away, "Let's leave this place. Muyun's head-bumping earlier made too much noise and seems to have attracted someone."
The three of them quickly left the chaotic "landing site" and moved to another small hill nearby. From here, they were closer to the ruins of the castle and had a better view of the surroundings.
The Jorford Ancient Castle was situated on a high ground, but unlike other ancient castles, it was not strategically located. This was probably because the area was flat, and even the former lord couldn't find a more suitable defensive location. The castle itself had completely collapsed. All that could be seen on the high ground were large piles of stones, barely hinting at the once magnificent stone structure. The gray-white cold stones were piled up, forming a roughly rectangular ruin, devoid of any vitality.
Near the high ground, a small cluster of lights could be seen. In the moonlight and lamplight, one could see some tents and a few large vehicles. Shadows flickered in the light, presumably the enthusiasts of paranormal activities attracted by
the haunted castle.
There weren't as many people as imagined, probably only a dozen or so. It seemed that enthusiasts who camped in the wilderness in the middle of the night looking for ghosts were still a minority. This made Lin Feng feel a lot more relaxed—he thought there would be a crowd here.
Obviously, this guy confused the ghost-catching convention with a temple fair.
"South Palace's group has arrived too." Vivian pointed her hand, and Lin Feng saw a set of headlights approaching from afar. In the night, he recognized it as Angus's off-road vehicle, with Nangong sitting in the back seat, still wearing his arrogant expert expression.
"Wait a minute." Lin Feng suddenly felt something was wrong. He rubbed his eyes vigorously and looked far into the darkness on the other side of the wilderness. "Vivian, how's your night vision?"
"It's pretty good," Vivian nodded. "I am a nocturnal creature, after all."
"Then, can you see three dead trees in that direction? Under one of the trees... oh no, two large rocks."
"Yes, I can see them clearly," Vivian said casually, then suddenly realized, "Wait, can you see them too?!"
Lin Feng blinked. He noticed a detail he had overlooked all the way: although the night was dark around him, with only a dim moon in the sky, everything in his field of vision was as clear as day! The three dead trees in the distance were estimated to be at least two or three kilometers away, yet he could see almost every branch on them!
"This... is it the effect of Crow 12345's salary finally arriving?" Lin Feng suddenly remembered what Crow 12345 had told him before he left, "Under suitable conditions, various effects of physical enhancement will be unlocked one by one. Is this what he meant?"
Lin Feng felt happy. After being fooled for so long, he finally stumbled upon a good thing.
