Chaos

The situation took a sudden turn for the worse, and the appearance of the demon hunting team in front of everyone instantly stunned Vivian. Kasa Eben looked around in astonishment at the emotionless "humans" towering over them. His muscles began to swell again as the peculiar aura emanating from the demon hunters' strange crossbows unsettled him. This was the unique "scent" left behind by countless hunts of anomalies, something Kasa Eben, as a seasoned werewolf, could keenly sense.

Undoubtedly, they were facing a group of experienced combatants. Kasa Eben had received prior intelligence suggesting the presence of demon hunters in the city, and he had speculated about one or two patrolling individuals. But he never imagined encountering such a large gathering of demon hunters here, and their strength far exceeded his expectations. The ability to set up such an ambush under the noses of werewolves was not something new recruits could accomplish.

The intelligence was flawed, and the family "sentinels" might have faltered. However, it was futile to dwell on this until they successfully escaped this crisis. Eun Eben also began to transform immediately, but both he and Kasa Eben's transformation speeds were noticeably slower, and even after transforming, their aura was not as formidable as before.

Perhaps the recent intense battle with Vivian had contributed to the weakened state of the two werewolves. However, the predominant reason was the strange, lingering scent in the air, draining their strength and preventing them from focusing. Eun Eben stared up at the middle-aged man on the rooftop, his voice growling deeply, "You... are as despicable as ever!"

"Just hunting." The middle-aged man remained expressionless. "Hunters set traps; it's unrelated to morality. But before I proceed, I have a few questions: why are so many monsters gathering in one place? This doesn't seem like your usual haunt."

The middle-aged man's voice sounded quite bland, devoid of anger or hostility. He was merely curious about the situation before him and asked out of pure interest. This was Lin Feng's first encounter with genuine demon hunters, unlike the half-hearted Nangong he had encountered in England. The demon hunter before him fit Vivian's description more accurately, and evidently... was more dangerous.

As the middle-aged man's words trailed off, the demon hunters on the surrounding rooftops had already raised their crossbows, each aiming at one of the "anomalies" below, including Lin Feng, who had been unfortunate enough to attract their attention. It was apparent that they didn't expect their "prey" to speak about the reason for their gathering here. While werewolves and vampires might exchange a few words after a brawl, demon hunters and anomalies were sworn enemies; there was hardly any room for compromise between them. Once they crossed paths, it was a fight to the death.

"I can't use my strength." Seizing the moment before the demon hunters struck, Kasa Eben quickly turned his head and said, "How are you all holding up?"

"I'm fine; their potions have limited effect on me." Vivian, too, displayed an air of imminent danger. As she spoke, she glanced sideways at Muyun, "This big dog seems fine too, probably due to his special lineage..."

In ordinary circumstances, Kasa Eben would have liked to inquire about the meaning of "special lineage," but now there was no time for anyone to provide him with that opportunity. Just as Vivian finished speaking, the leader of the demon hunters gently raised his crossbow, signaling the start of the assault.

The seven or eight silver-white bolts, shimmering with electricity, shot forth like lightning. Compared to the grand battles Vivian and Kasa Eben had previously engaged in, these bolts seemed inconspicuous. However, even Vivian did not dare to underestimate the destructive power of these peculiar projectiles. She pushed Muyun aside, who then dispersed into a swirling mass of bats, dodging the attacks. Kasa and Eun, meanwhile, swiftly evaded the onslaught, moving in opposite directions. Lin Feng, however, reacted slower. Though his consciousness barely kept up, his body lagged behind. With a crisp "clang," a layer of ripple-like patterns spread across his chest. Fortunately, his rigid shield had the ability to activate automatically in emergencies, otherwise, he would have been "delighted" by the attack.

The silver bolts that missed their mark did not fall to the ground but disappeared in mid-air after Vivian and the others dodged them. Inexplicably, they reappeared on the hand crossbows of each demon hunter, ready to be fired again!

These were the standard equipment of demon hunters, known as the "Endless Justice" hunting weapons. Empowered by incredible forces, both the crossbow and its ammunition could tirelessly hunt down their targets. By locking onto the enemy with their mental strength, demon hunters could reset the projectiles countless times before hitting their mark, ensuring relentless pursuit until their target was eliminated!

Of course, there were ways to counter these weapons, such as opportunistically destroying the crossbows or directly eliminating the wielders. Otherwise, one had to wait until the demon hunters switched to other equipment.

Vivian and the two genuine werewolves were well-versed in combat and understood how the demon hunters' equipment functioned. They immediately began to retaliate. Vivian transformed into a storm of bats, carrying two bolts of lightning as she surged towards the leader of the demon hunters, intending to decapitate him. The werewolves dodged the incessant barrage of bolts, seizing the opportunity to approach their attackers on the rooftop. Their black mist seemed to be suppressed by the strange scent in the air, rendering it ineffective. Now, they could only rely on their speed.

Muyun, meanwhile, darted around like a headless chicken, but for the moment... he seemed safe. Huskies were quite fast runners.

The scene descended into chaos in an instant. The demon hunters' demon-hunting crossbows, equipped with infinite ammunition, began to fire at Lin Feng and the others like mini-gatling guns. Traces of silver light flickered in the air, leaving faint trails as the demon-hunting arrows were sent back to the crossbows, reloaded and ready to fire again!

This was the moment Lin Feng's group was caught in a chaotic melee. Despite being an amateur, Lin Feng managed to disarm the first demon hunter successfully.

"Human beings don't possess such speed and strength, nor do they have protective shields." The scarred-faced woman, the one who had shot at Lin Feng earlier, appeared intrigued. She swiftly teleported ten meters away before Lin Feng could land a second punch, then, from a safe distance, retrieved a strange, meter-long giant crossbow from her back. "You must be a new breed of monster; I'll take you for study."

With determination, Lin Feng hurled his data terminal at her. "Study this!"
