The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room as Bella prepared for her visit to the office. She felt a mix of emotions....relief at leaving a job that had become increasingly stressful and anxiety about the unknown.
After breakfast, she exchanged playful banter with Rachel, who was excitedly getting ready for school. Bella couldn't help but smile at her daughter's enthusiasm, even as a sense of apprehension lingered in the back of her mind.
"Are you going to be okay today, Mommy?" Rachel asked, her big eyes filled with concern.
"I'll be just fine, sweetie," Bella reassured her, giving her a kiss on the forehead. "Just need to finish some paperwork, and then I'll be home before you know it."
After getting Rachel ready for school, Bella took a deep breath and headed to her laptop to finalize her resignation letter. As she typed, she reflected on her decision. Lucas had been so supportive, urging her to prioritize her health and happiness.
She hoped to find a new opportunity that felt fulfilling, something that would allow her to balance her responsibilities as a mother and soon-to-be wife.
Once the letter was complete, Bella made her way to the office, dropping rachel on the way. The ride felt surreal
she was saying goodbye to a chapter of her life that had brought both challenges and growth.
Upon arriving, she greeted her coworkers with a mix of sadness and gratitude, explaining her decision to resign. They expressed their well-wishes, but Bella couldn't shake the feeling that she was leaving behind a part of herself.
After completing the formalities, she headed home, her heart lighter yet filled with anticipation for what lay ahead.
Just as she stepped through the door, her phone buzzed. It was Lucas.
"Hey, Bella! I hope you're done with everything. I'll pick you up for lunch in a bit!" His voice was warm and inviting.
"Sounds great! I'll be ready," she replied, feeling a flutter of excitement at the thought of spending time with him.
She took a moment to freshen up, her thoughts drifting to the future and the life they were building together. Just as she was about to head out the door, a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her.
Bella paused, closing her eyes and taking deep breaths, hoping it would pass. She attributed it to stress and the slight anxiety about her resignation.
When Lucas arrived, he greeted her with a soft smile and a bouquet in his hands. "You look beautiful, as always," he said, his eyes shining with affection.
"Thanks! I feel a bit dizzy, but it's probably just from the morning," Bella admitted, brushing it off.
"Let's get some food in you...that should help," he suggested, leading her to his car.
As they drove to a nearby café, Bella's dizziness intensified, but she kept her discomfort to herself. She didn't want to worry Lucas, especially after all the support he had given her.
Their lunch was filled with laughter and light conversation, but she noticed that Lucas kept glancing at her with concern, as if he could sense something was off.
After finishing their meal, they decided to take a stroll in the nearby park. The fresh air felt invigorating, but as they walked, Bella felt a sudden, sharp pain in her abdomen. She stopped mid-sentence, clutching her stomach.
"Bella? Are you okay?" Lucas asked, alarmed.
"I—" She gasped, the pain intensifying. "I think something's wrong." She crouched down because of the pain and that's when Lucas noticed her dress stained.
In an instant, Lucas was at her side, his expression shifting from concern to panic. "What do you mean? You have blood on your dress too Bella. Let's get you to a doctor. Now."
He helped her into the car, his hands gentle yet firm as he navigated through traffic. Bella's heart raced. She tried to focus on calming her breathing, but the anxiety clawed at her. "Lucas, I'm scared. What if...." she admitted, tears brimming in her eyes.
"You're going to be okay, I promise," he said, his voice steady and reassuring. "Just hang in there."
When they reached the hospital, Lucas parked the car and rushed around to help Bella out. He carried her in his arms as she was not in her right state. They hurried inside, and Lucas approached the reception desk, explaining the situation with urgency. Bella could barely focus on what was happening around her, her mind racing with worry about the baby.
After a few tense moments, a nurse led them to an examination room. Bella was given a gown and asked a series of questions about her symptoms. Lucas remained by her side, holding her hand tightly as they waited for the doctor.
"I shouldn't have waited to tell you. It's all my fault, I thought they were normal," Bella said, her voice shaky. "I didn't want to worry you."
"Bella, you don't have to protect me from your worries. We're in this together," Lucas replied, his grip firm. "Just focus on getting better now. Don't worry."
Finally, the doctor entered, reviewing Bella's chart and asking more questions. He examined her carefully and ordered an ultrasound to ensure everything was alright. Bella's heart raced, anxiety flooding her senses as she lay back on the examination table.
Lucas stood close by, watching intently. "You're going to be fine," he whispered, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. He looked like he was going to cry from all this pressure.
After what felt like an eternity, the doctor returned with reassuring news. "The baby is perfectly healthy. The bleeding you experienced was mild, likely due to hormonal changes and stress. However, it's essential to rest and monitor any further symptoms. I advice you to not take unnecessary stress or it may be threatening."
Bella felt a wave of relief wash over her, but the fear of the unknown still lingered. "Thank you," she whispered, tears of gratitude in her eyes. They both further listened to the doctor's advice before leaving the room.
She was going to the exit but he was fast enough to drap his jacket around her waist. He was stood behind her. She got froze from the intimacy for a few seconds. He wrapped it carefully and whispered. "To cover the stain." She just walked ahead of him too embarrassed to talk about that stain.
As they left the hospital, Lucas wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. "I'm just glad you're okay. I don't want you to go through this alone," he said, his voice filled with sincerity.
"I won't," she replied softly, leaning into him. "I have you." Hearing her answer he felt his face flushing with a bashful pink. "You have to tell me everything from now on, alright?" She just looked up to him and nodded.
