= Sarah POV =
Just as I was about to try to coax Chris out of the blanket, Mrs Fairfield burst into the house again and stood in the living room in a huff.
"Now see here, Christina Sakura Fairfield, I did not seduce that girl for the pure sake of getting one over you. Why can't you understand that we were in love, and that was that? Stop accusing Mommy of stealing your girlfriends. Mommy can't help it if she's single and wants to mingle," Mrs Fairfield lectured, standing akimbo in the living room.
Like a phoenix rising from the fire, Chris went from completely passive to jumping up from her safety blankets, marching right up to her mom, and assuming a similar position.
"Then tell me why it was only three months that I brought her home to see you, that you somehow wiggled your way into her heart and her pants, hmm? I still hold you responsible for the death of that relationship," Chris snapped back.
"But honey, you yourself said that you two weren't in a relationship. You can't say cheating if there was no ring on it," Mrs Fairfield said. Suddenly, her eyes moved from Chris to mine, a smile blooming on her face. " And I buy the best rings," she grinned, her tongue sneaking out and licking the corner of her autumn rose lips.
Suddenly, I felt a shiver run throughout my whole body. I was sure that Chris had looked at me like that before. A gut-wrenching butterfly-making stare made me feel as though her eyes were undressing me on the spot. It really was like a mother-like daughter, alright...
Chris froze as if she had noticed what her mom had done and didn't know how to react. I couldn't see her face, but with this blatant display of attraction, even I couldn't hide the fact that her mom was coming on to me.
I sighed and got up. No wonder Dr Kimura suggested I seek alternative accommodation at the spa. These two knew nothing about caring for another human being.
I walked over to the two beautiful women. Each with straight black hair and fiery blue eyes. Each has their desires towards me, and each is getting on my last nerve.
I turned on "friend meets friend's mom" mode in my head, and I reached out and politely took one of Mrs Fairfield's hands in both of mine. " Mrs. Fairfield, thank you so much for letting me stay with Chris. I know it's a lot to ask, but I appreciate it. I've always seen you as my second mom, and I know I can rely on you while I am far away from my mom and pop in the country, so please continue to take care of me, and I will try my best to take good care of this space and my umm, roommate Chris" I said with a half-closed-eye-wide-mouth smile. I put on my best platonic try-hard-to-please aura that I could muster to dissuade any thoughts of a romantic connection between me and Mrs Fairfrield.
Mrs Fairfield's eyes blinked rapidly as if she was taken aback.
"Oh! Oh…yes, of course, dear," Mrs. Fairfield said, her eyes growing wide, then softening a moment later " Of course, you have and will always be my unofficial second daughter", she said and cupped my cheek fondly with her free hand " I am so sorry, I didn't realize your intentions, I look forward to having you as my official daughter, one day soon, when Chris gets around to making up her mind," Mrs. Fairfield grinned and tapped me fondly on the nose.
"Huh?" I said, now the one to be taken aback.
Mrs Fairfield slipped out of my grasp and winked at Chris," Mama approves," she said and turned on her heels. I'll send my smoothies and soups later for your girls, Tata! " She said, and just like that, she was gone in the cloud of drama-fueled feuillage vert perfume.
I turned to Chris, so confused "Umm…official daughter? What was that about?" I asked, laughing nervously.
Chris suddenly started, as if she had completely zoned out from the conversation.
"Oh ahh..hahaha", Chris started with a forced laugh " I guess you know, she meant when we get married, you'd be her…ah… daughter-in-law? Ahaha ha. Official daughter? Cause you would have married into the family? Ha ha ha ha, " Chris said, glancing at me and then reeling back "I mean, that's what she meant, I guess. She's probably just reading into things. I got to go lie down," Chris said, marching back to her room and slamming the door.
In shock, I looked between the door Mrs Fairfield left through and the door Jr. Fairfield left through. If I were to marry into the family, would this be my life? I couldn't even seem to start dating one of these two ladies, let alone marry them!
I groaned, grabbed the hot chocolate from the table, and trudged back to my own room. The idea of sleeping at the Spa sounded more pleasant and likelier by the second.
