Awaken in the waking world, he have little memories prior of being a Hunter due to the scar inflicted to his mind. But from what little he could recall, his world shouldn't be a post apocalyptic wasteland. He can see the image of Yharnam overlapping with the waking world. Human turn Beast, wander the land. Deserted settlements devoid of human life.
The only difference here is the sky are bright and sweltering while sand slowly consuming the landscape.
