Borderlands

I grab the sides of the chair my father had just vacated tightly until my knuckles become white, Beta Stewards walks up to me and pats me lightly on the back, then turns to face the others in the room.

"Why don't we reconvene at a later date, that would give the new Alpha time to put himself together. Alpha Mack dropped a big one on all of us, so lets go home and wait for a new meeting date".

"Is this really the best time for him to be dumping such responsibility on the shoulders of a young boy? Zachary isn't ready for this" Adler ome of the cabinet members bellowed.

"Its Alpha Zachary" I ordered with all the authority I can muster, staring him down. The room quites down immediately.

"Go home, I'll handle Farrel" I declare to them

"How?" The chief of security asks. I know he means well, he is one of the few people whose loyalty to my father cannot be questioned.

"Let me worry about that" I say instead of admitting that I had no idea what to do.

I harden my face and stare them down daring them to challenge me, thankfully no one does and one by one they now and take their leave until only Stewards is left in the room.

I breath out heavily and slump down on my fathers chair.

"I've been preparing for this day for the past three years, now its here I feel.... so lost"

He looks straight at me and sighs heavily but says nothing.

We sit still for a few minutes each one of us lost in their own thoughts, he noisily moves his chair back, gets up and says while heading out.

"This is the time when you must trust yourself completely. You're surrounded by enemies both within and without but as far as you do not doubt yourself you will succeed at that which you aspire".

I sit in my father's office in the pack house going through documents and thinking about Annah when Smoke rushes in. I look up from the stack of papers I am holding

"What is it?"

"We spotted Farrell on the borderlands" he says breathing heavily

I put the papers down and place both my palms on the table face down considering my options.

They have never come this close to our territory before, if they are really in the borderlands then it is a direct affront to us.

"Get the rest of our team" I say getting up and charging for the door

Smoke nods once and disappears the way he had come.

Our team consists of Smoke, Simon, Reu, Andre and I.

They are my closest friends and someday will make up my cabinet members. These guys I trust with my life.

When I get to the borderlands with Smoke, Andre Simon and Reu are already there... they come forward to meet us. We are all in our wolf form.

"You were right, they are here" Andre says through our mind link.

"How many of them?" Iask

"We ain't certain, maybe three or four" Reu replies

"It doesn't seem like they're here for a fight though, or else there would be more of them" Simon reasons

"Buh what the fuck are they thinking showing up here" Andre says.

"Did they notice you?" I ask looking at Andre

"No, they definitely didn't. We've been keeping our distance"

"Boss we can definitely take them" Reu speaks up, always eager for a fight.

The four huge wolves standing in a semi circle around me patiently wait for my order.
