The room fell silent, the weight of her words hanging in the air. Queen Charlotte felt a pang of guilty in her heart and pressure mounting, her mother's piercing gaze bearing down on her.
"You are right, Mother." Queen Charlotte finally admitted.
"I should have told you. I was only trying to protect him, but I see now that secrecy only breeds mistrust and division." She added, her voice quieter.
"Protect him? From what, exactly?" Charlotte II asked, her expression remained stern.
"From him drowning more in pain and negative emotions." Queen Charlotte replied, her voice tinged with sadness.
"Ray was abandoned by Risa when he was a child. I knew he despises my sister for it. I thought if he learned about his heritage and the complexities of our family too soon, it might break him, or worse, shatter his loyalty for me. While I was training him, I saw the anger, the hatred, the indignation, sometimes pain he harbored throughout his training. That's where I knew, once I found out he was Risa's son, I don't want tell him I'm the sister of the mother who despicably abandoned him when he was a child and left him at the mercy of his Japanese father. I don't want to add more to his negative emotions or else, he would've drowned completely in his own feelings." Queen Charlotte somberly added.
Charlotte Victoria II's icy blue eyes widened in shock, her lips parting in disbelief.
"Abandoned? By Risa?" She repeated, her voice trembling with a mix of fury and sadness.
"How could she do such a thing?" She added.
Queen Charlotte's gaze dropped.
"Ray was verbally and emotionally abused by his Japanese father throughout the years Risa was absent. He endured so much pain." Charlotte added, her voice lowering to a whisper.
Charlotte II's hands clenched into fists, her perfectly manicured nails digging into her palms.
"I can't believe Risa would abandon her own child!" She said, her voice quivering with anger.
"And to leave him in the hands of an abusive man? How could she?" She added.
Queen Charlotte looked up, her eyes filled with sorrow.
"I wanted to protect him, Mother. I thought keeping our real identity secret to him would shield him from more pain and negative emotions. But I see now that I was wrong. Secrecy has only caused more harm." Charlotte said, her voice melancholic.
Charlotte II's anger towards Risa grew, her icy blue eyes blazing with fury.
"Risa will answer for this." She declared, her voice steely.
"But right now, we must focus on Ray. He deserves to know the truth, and he deserves to be part of this family." Charlotte Victoria II added, her voice seems calmer. Her shifting from a furious to calm and composed woman in seconds was impeccable. It seems she can control her feelings when necessary.
"Agreed, Mother. I will ensure Ray is brought into fold and that our family stands stronger together." Queen Charlotte uttered, her resolve firming.
Charlotte Victoria II gave a small, approving nod.
"Good. Now, tell me more about Ray. What kind of man has he become?" She asked, curious to know her grandson.
As Queen Charlotte began to recount the details of Ray's life. She shared everything of what she had known towards Ray, their first encounter, his first initiation, his extreme training, him pledging his loyalty to her, his missions, his personality. The bond between mother and daughter grew promising.
The room, once filled with the tension of impending conflict, now echoed with the promise of reconciliation and the strength of familial ties.
Outside the chamber, the three deadly, cunning, gracefully exquisite Queenswomen, Serpent, Viper, and Nighthawk stood vigil, their keen senses attuned to any sign of disturbance.
They knew that within those walls, a new chapter for the Rourke family and Queen Charlotte's life was being written, one that would shape the future of their family and their legacy.
