Chapter 69

Aimee's POV

I stopped at the edge of the forest, right where the backyard of Alpha Jacob's palace meets the woods. I had just returned to my human form, and worry gnawed at me. I wanted to pause by the stone, but Layla, my wolf, guided me away from the confrontation between Alpha Jacob and Olivia. The air around me was thick with tension, and every rustle of leaves seemed to amplify my anxiety.

"Why did you bring me here, Layla? And why have you been silent, not telling me anything?" I asked, frustration evident in my voice.

"I may be your wolf, Aimee, but for certain matters related to personal issues, secrets, or Alpha Jacob's past, I cannot divulge them. I brought you here because it's too dangerous to be near Alpha Jacob when he loses control," Layla replied calmly, her voice echoing in my mind.
