Aimee's POV
The warmth of James' arms around me was reassuring, but I could still feel the tension in his muscles, a reminder that the darkness wasn't gone yet. It was like there was always something lurking just beneath the surface, waiting to pull him away from me. I knew how hard he was fighting, and I wanted nothing more than to take away his pain. But as much as I wanted to believe we could just be together without any more problems, reality was much more complicated.
I pulled back slightly to look up at him. His eyes met mine, and for a moment, we just stared at each other, words hanging in the space between us. There was so much I wanted to say, so much I needed to know.
"James," I began softly, not wanting to break the moment but knowing I had to. "What if… what if we can't stop the curse? What if this darkness doesn't go away?"
