I rub my temples, my frustration mounting as I sift through the outdated, patriarchal laws that govern our society. Page after page, I see laws that overwhelmingly favor male wolves, leaving female wolves with barely any autonomy. It's absurd. Wolves claim to be a species of strength, but here in black and white, our traditions contradict that very claim.
What frustrates me the most is the mate bond laws. According to this archaic nonsense, a bond is nearly impossible to break, even in the event that one mate is abusive, unfaithful, or unworthy. It's written as though love is an unshakable force, when in reality, not everyone is lucky enough to have a partner like mine. Some wolves suffer. Some are trapped. This law forces them to endure, and I refuse to let that stand.
Something has to change.
Just as I begin making notes in the margins, a soft knock sounds at my door. I don't even look up when I call out, "Come in."
