The Deal

As Mei-ling sat in the back of the luxurious car, her mind wandered to the events of the previous night. She had spent hours with Zhang, lost in a whirlwind of passion and desire, oblivious to the world outside their bubble of secrecy. But now, as the car raced through the city streets, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that gnawed at her insides.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden appearance of a phone in the hands of her chauffeur. Confusion etched across her features as she accepted the device, her heart pounding with apprehension as she read the message displayed on the screen.

" Ma'am, you need to see this." The chauffeur stated as she passed the phone to her

"Zhang describes her as his mistress," the words seemed to leap off the screen, stabbing at Mei-ling's heart with the force of a thousand daggers. Mistress. The word echoed in her mind, a cruel reminder of the reality of their relationship, of the lies and deceit that shrouded their love in darkness.

She felt her chest tighten with a mixture of anger and hurt, her fingers trembling as she struggled to make sense of the betrayal unfolding before her eyes. How could Zhang, the man she loved, the man who had whispered sweet promises of forever in her ear, reduce her to nothing more than a mere mistress, a disposable object of his desire?

Tears welled up in Mei-ling's eyes, blurring her vision as she struggled to contain the torrent of emotions threatening to consume her. She had known the risks of becoming involved with a married man, had braced herself for the inevitable heartache that would follow. But nothing could have prepared her for the searing pain of hearing Zhang's betrayal laid bare for all the world to see.

As the car came to a stop, Mei-ling found herself unable to move, her body frozen in place as she grappled with the crushing weight of reality. She had given everything to Zhang, had sacrificed her own happiness in the name of their forbidden love, only to be discarded like past news, branded with the damning label of mistress.

A bitter laugh bubbled up in Mei-ling's throat, the sound harsh and hollow against the backdrop of her shattered dreams. How ironic, she thought bitterly, that the man who had promised her the world had now reduced her to nothing more than a footnote in his sordid tale of infidelity.

But amidst the pain and the heartache, a spark of defiance flickered into life within Mei-ling's soul. She refused to be defined by Zhang's betrayal, refused to allow his actions to dictate her worth. She was more than just a mistress, more than just a pawn in his game of deceit.

" Ma'am, are you alright or should I drive you back to the hotel?" The middle-aged chauffeur inquired as she held Mei-ling's face covered with tears and with the reporters flooded, he thought she couldn't handle it.

It's okay. Thank you for your concern. I shall leave. I will call you when you pick me up. Mei-ling started with a steely resolve, she wiped away her tears, her jaw set in a determined line as she stepped out of the car and into the harsh glare of the world outside. She may have been tarnished by Zhang's betrayal, but she refused to let it break her. For she was Mei-ling, a woman of strength and resilience, and she would rise from the ashes of her shattered heart, stronger and more beautiful than ever before. She makes her way into the corporate company to sign the deal off, and she was neither shaken by the reporters who crowded her over as they abused her for opening her legs wide for a marriage despite knowing her position. She makes her way up with her chin up as she turns a deaf ear on every insulting word she comes across. With every stare, she scanned through her body and she did not let this drop her because she was no more ambitious than ever. She takes the elevator before she lands on the next floor where she was supposed to have the meeting with the board members of the corporate company.

As Mei-ling hurried into the conference chamber, her heart pounding in her chest, she could feel the weight of the world bearing down on her shoulders. She knew she was walking into a lion's den, facing a group of powerful men who saw her as nothing more than a distraction, a stain on their pristine corporate image. But she refused to be intimidated. She had a deal to propose, a partnership that could revolutionize their industry, and she wouldn't let anyone stand in her way.

As she slipped into her seat at the table, the eyes of the board members turned toward her, their expressions a mixture of surprise and disdain. Mei-ling squared her shoulders, refusing to back down under their scrutiny.

"I apologize for my tardiness," she began, her voice steady despite the nerves that threatened to betray her.

"I had urgent business to attend to, but I assure you, I am fully prepared to present my proposal."

The chairperson of the board, a stern-faced man with a reputation for ruthlessness, regarded Mei-ling with thinly veiled contempt. "We've already begun the meeting, Miss Mei-ling," he said, his tone dripping with condescension.

"Your lack of punctuality does not reflect well on your professionalism."

Mei-ling bristled at the insult, but she refused to rise to the bait. She had come here to do business, and she wouldn't let their petty insults distract her from her goal.

Let's not waste any more time, another board member interjected, his tone dismissive.

What exactly is this proposal of yours, Miss Mei-ling? And why should we even consider it, given your... reputation?"

The word hung in the air like a foul stench, a reminder of the scandal that had thrust Mei-ling into the spotlight, painting her as nothing more than a temptress, a home-wrecker. But she refused to let their prejudice cloud their judgment.

"My proposal is simple, Mei-ling began, her voice steady despite the anger simmering beneath the surface. "I have a business opportunity that I believe has the potential to greatly benefit your company. It's a partnership with a tech startup that specializes in innovative software solutions, a partnership that could give you a competitive edge in the market and increase our profitability tenfold.

The board members exchanged skeptical glances, their doubts evident in their furrowed brows and tight lips. But Mei-ling pressed on, determined to win them over with the strength of her conviction.

"I understand that my presence here may be... controversial, she continued, choosing her words carefully. "But I assure you, my personal life has no bearing on my ability to deliver results. I am a savvy business executive with a track record of success, and I believe that this partnership could be the key to unlocking new opportunities for your company.

The chairperson of the board leaned back in his chair, his expression inscrutable as he regarded Mei-ling with a calculating gaze. And what does Mr. Zhang has to say about all this? He asked, his tone laced with skepticism.

Mei-ling's heart sank at the mention of Zhang's name, the reminder of their tumultuous relationship a bitter pill to swallow. But she refused to let her emotions get the best of her. She had come here to prove herself, to show the board members that she was more than just a footnote in Zhang's scandalous affair.

"Mr. Zhang and I may have had our differences in the past," Mei-ling replied, her voice steady despite the turmoil raging within her. "But he has nothing to do with this proposal. This is about business, pure and simple. And I believe that your company would be wise to seize this opportunity while you still can.

The board members exchanged wary glances, their expressions betraying their uncertainty. Mei-ling knew she was fighting an uphill battle, that their prejudice against her would be difficult to overcome. But she refused to give up without a fight.

"Think about it, she urged, her voice pleading. "This partnership could be the breakthrough our company needs to stay ahead of the competition, to secure our place at the top of the industry. Don't let personal bias cloud your judgment. Judge me based on the merits of my proposal, and I promise you won't be disappointed.

The boardroom fell silent, the tension thick in the air as the members deliberated among themselves. Mei-ling held her breath, her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for their decision.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the chairperson of the board spoke, his voice grave but decisive.

"We appreciate your proposal, Miss Mei-ling," he said, his tone softened slightly by a hint of begrudging respect.

And while we may have reservations about your... personal affairs, we cannot deny the potential benefits of this partnership. We will consider your proposal further and get back to you with our decision.

A sense of relief washed over Mei-ling as she listened to the chairperson's words, a glimmer of hope flickering to life within her chest. She knew she still had a long way to go to earn the board members' trust, to prove herself worthy of their respect. But for now, she would take this small victory and hold onto it tightly, determined to prove to the world that she was more than just a scandalous headline, that she was a force to be reckoned with, both in business and in life. The chairperson stated as the meeting ended, and distinct murmurs were heard as she came out of the conference room. She caught up with the sight of Zhang from a distance to where the elevator was and her heart ached and the last man she wished him.
