Changing Her Fate

"I'm coming in."

Without a second wasted, a young man rushed inside the bedroom in panic and searched around the room for a particular small figure.

"Inanna, is everything alright? You're not hurt, are you? Don't worry, your big brother is right here to protect you."

The young man cooed his younger sister as he approached her in their nanny's arms. Swiftly, he took Inanna in his sturdy arms and moved his free hand to her head to caress her hair with gentle motions.

"... b-big brother.."

"Yes, I'm right here. Big brother is here now, my sweet girl."

His dulcet tone effortlessly calmed her overwhelmed and emotional state.

Her brother was alive. He wasn't dead. His beaten and bloodied corpse wasn't inside an abandoned cabin in the middle of nowhere. Left to decompose by itself in the forest. It was truly a miracle.

'That means they're also alive...'

"Have you calmed your wavering heart, my sweet girl?"

Inanna's older brother asked tenderly.

Listening to the beat of his heart and his gentle tone, Inanna looked up at her big brother to take in his features once again.

Her brother, Agnes Bessa, was almost a replica of their father.

His eye and hair color were like her own. His orbs were lavender and his locks being scarlet red. Keeping his hair length till his ears with bangs just above his eyes.

The young lad's facial structure containing sharp features, but soft and beautiful eyes. His lips were plum and full with a tint of redness, giving it an appealing look to any young lady who laid their eyes upon him.

Fortunately, being a knight himself, he maintained a lean and well-built body structure—exactly one of a knight.

The young man was handsome indeed.

Shortly, Inanna replied to her older brother's concern by nodding her head as she admired her brother's handsome striking looks.

She truly missed him. She missed her family. She missed everyone.

Suddenly, Inanna yelped surprised and shocked from her brother's actions as he began carrying her towards her pillow filled bed.

"Ah—Brother!"

The young girl exclaimed.

"I apologize, but you need to get more sleep. It's too early in the morning, my sweet girl! You need all the sleep you can get in order to grow up healthy."

The tall lad, Agnes, instantly changed his worried demeanor to a scolding one of a parent as he reached the bed and settled the young girl in his arms on the mattress.

"I'm glad you're okay."

Agnes murmured out, gazing lovingly at his youngest sister as he sat beside her and moved a strand of hair from her forehead.

"Brother... you haven't changed. I'm glad you're here and alive. I can't bear to lose anyone I hold dear in my heart."

Inanna wavered out to her brother and held his hand, accompanied by a tight grip while staring at him with sorrowful eyes.

Agnes on the other hand, paused at her irregular response and merely furrowed his eyebrows.

"Inanna... did you have a nightmare? Is everything alright? Are one of the young ladies in your age group threatening you?"

Agnes expressed as he took his sister's hand in between his own big and rough ones.

Another aim Inanna wanted to do was keep her time-traveling a secret because of the more dangers it may bring and her family's reaction to the devastation of what the future holds.

Which explains why Inanna quickly covered up her suspicious behavior and lied about having a nightmare, being aware that she came back to the past.

"What—no! I... I simply had a nightmare. Yes, a silly nightmare. A very realistic one, if I may add."

Inanna conveyed with an unaware saddened smile across her lips.

She couldn't help and think about the heartbreaking and brutal betrayal, mere seconds before her wedding. All caused by her own fiancé and her foolish decisions in the past. It was all too fresh.

Now she understood her mistakes and wild obsession towards Kavin would get her to nowhere except her horrible end.

"Inanna, no matter what happens, we'll always be right here by your side, so please try to rely on us, okay?"

Her brother reassured, caressing her face with one of his hands while the other remains holding her tiny hand.

Thankfully, she now realized that her family and loved ones will be her focus in this second lifetime she was granted with.

"Yes.. how could I ever forget."

Then, Inanna having a proper reaction this time, hugged her brother in a bolt and thanked him for everything he's done for her and their family. Expressing the words 'I love you' repeatedly to her brother while he remained startled from the sudden affection.

His face turning pink as he hugged the young girl back and smiling softly with a dumb gazed expression. An expression saying he was a fool for his lovely sisters.

Unaware to them, their nanny purely teared up at the doting interaction between both siblings. The young man's mellow voice comforting his sister and the young girl giggling at the joy of seeing him. All as if they haven't seen each other in years.

It was a sentimental sight to witness, especially at the odd feeling she got from the young girl when she found her heart-rending state minutes ago.

Shortly, a few knocks were heard outside the bedroom, as the three turned their attention to the voice on the other side.

"My Lord, the Duke is asking for you about your tardiness and absence of your training."

An old voice announced.

Inanna quickly recognized the owner of the man's voice.

'Sir Ethon..'

The old butler of the dukedom. Another member of the household that remained loyal and protected the three siblings from danger at any cost. Shortly before retiring.

"Yes, I'll be out in a minute."

Agnes replied, taking a glance at the door.

"I must go now to train, my sweet girl. Your big brother will see you as soon as I can after my training with the knights."

The young man informed his sister as he got up from the bed to head towards the door where the old butler awaited him.

"Be a good child and get some more rest. I'll see you in a bit, okay? Remember, big brother loves you dearly."

At those words, Inanna's eyes widened, and her small fists clenched the silk sheets.

Those were the exact words her brother spoke before her family's departure of that day. The day where her family's misfortune occurred. The day of their demise.

If only she didn't get sick prior to their trip. Maybe then she would've left the cruel world along with her family. Before, the darkness and wickedness took over her mind and soul.

'No, I won't let it take place again. I'm going to protect you all, even if it costs my happiness and my change of fate.'

It was then, the gaze of Inanna's eyes changed to one's of determination. Her lavender orbs consisting a powerful gleam of fire with slightly narrowed eyebrows.

'That'll be my oath as a future knight of the Bessa household. The Scarlet Dragons.'
