The Reason

Swoosh!

The sea wind cut as the captain lunged. Hubert knew death was near, a speed he had never seen from a member of the watchmen. Flinching, he closed his eyes, expecting to see his body headless as blood spurted out of his cut-off neck.

Yet, he felt nothing. Slowly, he opened his eyelids. Greeted by the glinting of two swords, one from the captain, aiming to his throat in a thrust, the other, from the owl, protecting him from such an attack with the blade.

The two swords met, shaking as the wielder was locked in a struggle of power against each other.

"Jaz, you dare attack one that you swore to protect?" the owl asked, his tone questioning, his fist clenched.

Jaz, the captain, retracted his sword from the lock, keeping it then close, unsheathed from its scabbard.

"So what do I do? Watch as he mocks us? A fresh adventurer with pubic hair that hadn't yet matured?"
