Chapter 95: Hagrid and the Unicorn

Hogwarts, Forbidden Forest.

Entering the Forbidden Forest, trees so thick that three people need to hug each other stand around. If one looks up from the ground, one can't see the blue sky at all, only layers of branches and leaves. In the middle of the day, the sun was high in the sky, and the sunlight filtered through the gaps between the leaves and branches, bringing light to the Forbidden Forest.

At this moment, Lockhart stepped on the gray soil on the ground, but what surprised him was that the soil nearby did not appear to be very moist but was slightly soft and could even be called dry. When he stepped on it, he could feel the solid, hard earth, which gave him a sense of security.

Lockhart shouted loudly as he watched the sturdy Hagrid in front of him pass through a large number of branches, causing them to shake continuously. "Hagrid, how long does it take to reach our destination?"

"Lockhart, hurry up, we'll be there in a little while."

Lockhart was speechless when he heard the voice coming from the front. He had asked four or five times in a row, and Hagrid always responded like this. After walking for a while, the voice of "Come on, come on" still came from the front. In response, Lockhart remained silent and prepared to follow quietly.

After walking some distance, Hagrid suddenly turned back and spoke to him in a very low voice. "Lockhart, be careful not to make too much noise. There's a unicorn in front of you, don't disturb her."

Hearing this, Lockhart felt a little excited. Although he didn't encounter a Golden Snidget, unicorns were also very rare. He quickly and cautiously walked to the front and looked forward. In Lockhart's eyes, a beautiful creature with silver light emerged from the bushes in front of him. Its mane was pure silver, like an elegant and noble horse. The most conspicuous thing was the long spiral horn on its head.

"Hagrid, you have been in the Forbidden Forest for so many years, do you know this unicorn?"

In response, Hagrid shook his head slightly and said very softly, "I know some unicorns, and I have a good relationship with them. But this is the first time I've encountered this one. Be careful, unicorns are very wary of strangers, especially strange men."

Hearing this, Lockhart nodded. That's right, whether it's from his past life or from reading books in this life, unicorns are more affectionate to pure girls.

"Bah, bah, bah." Lockhart saw Hagrid making sounds next to him, and he was filled with anticipation. He hoped that Hagrid, as an expert on magical animals, would be able to not only calm the unicorn but also touch it.

It may be that Hagrid himself has a strong affinity for magical animals, or maybe the amulet also played a role. The unicorn turned to look at Hagrid but did not make any move and continued to eat the grass. Seeing this, Hagrid felt happy and patted Lockhart's shoulder lightly, indicating not to make any move.

Of course, Lockhart completely obeyed this, and he also expected Hagrid to take him to touch the unicorn. Then he watched Hagrid carefully sift some fresh green grass from the surrounding ground. He gently placed it on his palm and slowly handed his palm to the unicorn's mouth. It made a regular "Neigh" sound as if it was conveying some information.

Maybe it was because Hagrid didn't have any ill intentions at all. The unicorn took one look at it and ate the fresh grass in Hagrid's hand. Watching this scene, Lockhart felt a little emotional. Hagrid is indeed a professional magical animal expert. Anyone can feed grass, but making a unicorn eat the grass in his hand with confidence is a talent. If it were him, he would probably cast a few spells on the unicorn.

Soon, relying on Hagrid's rich experience, Lockhart saw that he had already reached out and gently stroked the unicorn's mane. Seeing this, Lockhart also cautiously took a few more steps forward. Looking at the unicorn that seemed to be enjoying the touch, Lockhart reached out and tried to touch it lightly.

Maybe it also knew that the humans in front of it were not hostile. Lockhart looked up but made no move. Seeing this, Lockhart followed Hagrid's example and found the fresh green grass around him, fed it to the unicorn in front of him, and at the same time tried to stroke its silvery fur. Feeling the little magic waves radiating around the unicorn's hair brought him a sense of comfort. Lockhart squinted his eyes and thought to himself.

It is said that unicorns have the ability to heal others, so the magic around it should have the same effect, though it is much weaker. As if sensing Lockhart's thoughts, the unicorn then shrank back, as if to avoid Lockhart's touch. Seeing this, Lockhart smiled awkwardly and did not continue touching it. Instead, he stepped back and quietly watched how Hagrid fed the unicorn.

He was just a little curious about unicorns. He was lucky to get the opportunity to stroke it. This was thanks to Hagrid's talent; otherwise, it would probably have run away the moment it saw him. After a while, maybe the unicorn was full, and Hagrid also felt that the unicorn was about to leave, and stopped stroking it gently. Then, under a ray of sunlight, Lockhart watched the man and the beast separate one after another.

This scene felt strangely familiar. It was as if an adult was watching a child leave, still a little reluctant, but still choosing to let go. Lockhart suddenly understood why Hagrid was loved by magical animals. In addition to having enough love for magical animals, he also knew how to let go. He did not blindly confine all magical animals around him.

"Hagrid, it's time to set off now. Let's go to the place where you saw the Golden Snidget before."

After watching Hagrid come to his senses, Lockhart stepped forward and patted Hagrid's thigh, saying in a deep voice, "Okay, Lockhart. Let's go now."

With that said, Hagrid continued to lead the way, heading towards the depths of the Forbidden Forest.
