After two years

But on a second thought, Leona felt like it was better to keep her warm at a time like this. Not that she was afraid of death but if she died now in the presence of this hateful man, then she would be rather miserable, rolling around un her grave for the rest of her life. And he might as well go and celebrate.

Surviving was truly a priority lest this jerk threw an extravagant party at her death. At the thought of that, she draped the suit jacket over her body.

Sensing the movements of the woman ceasing, Zayden spoke up again, ''What are your plans?"

''My secretary is smart.''

''So, you are going to sit here and wait for your secretary to come and save you?" Zayden's voice deepened a little.

''No, if you do the barbeque, get some good wine, I can also consider playing truth and dare with you,'' Leona crossed her arms in front of her chest and closed her eyes, ''The environment also seems suitable for that.''

She heard him sucking in a deep breath and that told her how frustrated the man was. And immediately, a hint of pleasure settled in her chest.

''Do you have your phone with you?" Leona questioned. She usually left her phone in her secretary's care unless it was needed hence at such a time, she did not even have the support of a phone.

''I suppose,'' the man responded after a brief pause.

''Then I believe you must be having fun sitting in the dark. Tell me if you are expecting the moon and stars to create the ambience for you, Mr. King.''

Her snarky words made him frown. There were things that he wanted to say but in the end when he opened his mouth, only a few words came out, ''You were unconscious and I was worried so I forgot.''

Leona burst out in a peal of laughter, ''Please. I cannot afford your worry in the slightest. Can you turn on the flashlight now that the cause of your worry is gone?"

Zayden did not speak to her anymore. He pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight. When the dark place lit up, Leona's eyes were met with a pair of dark grey eyes.

The alluringly handsome man sat there with his lips pursed. His shirt was half-unbuttoned and his long legs were awkwardly folded due to the position he was sitting in. His dark hair seemed to be sparkling with dew because of the ice gathered in his hair strands. One look at the man and it was not hard to see that he was quite obviously displeased.

Leona's eyes narrowed, 'Finding it hard to breathe in my presence? I wish I can suffocate you more.'

Leona refrained herself from sparing too much attention to the man and looked around the place. What she saw made her realize why it was so cold. The place seemed like an empty room and they were sitting on the floor however it was not an ordinary room but instead a large refrigerated room, a cold storage.

From where she fell, it did not seem that high which explained why although her joints and back hurt a bit but she was not terribly injured.

Leona spotted the switchboard at a distance and she immediately stood up but the moment she moved, her joints seemed to be stuck as she lost her balance.

Zayden moved immediately in an attempt to hold her but the moment his hand reached out, the woman flexibly swung her body sidewise and smashed herself against the wall. Leona winced without making a sound as she rubbed her shoulder and staggered towards the switchboard. When she turned on the switch, the room dimly lit up.

She turned to look at Zayden, ''Unless you are waiting for a pigeon to deliver you handwritten letter outside, you can use your phone to make a call.''

Zayden calmly turned his phone towards her to show her the no-network sign.

Leona did not say anything and settled in the corner of the room, her body trembling.

''Is it difficult for you to talk properly?" the man spoke after a moment.

''It is not. I talk very properly when I talk to non-detestable people.''

''Like that officer of yours?"

Leona could not help but frown, ''Why are you so stuck on the officer?" When the man did not say anything, she spoke up, ''Nevertheless, precisely just like that officer.''

The place sunk in silence again and nobody spoke.

Leona brought her palms closer to her mouth and blew into them.

''We are seeing each other after two years. You can make an effort to respond decently.''

Zayden's words made her pause. She sneered, ''I am not seeing you after two years. You have been an eyesore to me every other month by crossing paths with me here and there,'' And when he did not cross paths with her, she came across news or information about him, just like she saw his picture in the advertisement of that jewellery brand.

However, even though they had crossed paths, this was the first time they were in the same space after their divorce. And this was the first time that they talked after two years.

Leona however let out a mocking smile, ''Moreover, I have no interest whatsoever in interacting with some man I married years ago.''

Zayden's eyes darkened but the woman showed no intention of stopping there.

She continued speaking, ''You should already feel blessed that I don't make an attempt to take your life when I see you…''

''Do you hate me that much?" the man cut her off as he looked at the woman who had an aloof expression on her face as if she was talking to a stranger.

Leona gazed at the man indifferently, ''If I hated you for real then I would have killed you. But it's too strong of an emotion for me to spare it on you. I… Ahh...'' she trailed off and her face turned pale and her body curled slightly.
