Chapter 28:Addiction to the Potion

The following days were almost monotonous.

Every day, Allen led the ranger team through the rainforest, patrolling and capturing large quantities of fireflies and bullfrogs.

Whenever no one was paying attention or everyone was busy, Allen would slip away to his secret base to check on the progress.

Over the span of ten days, Allen managed to discreetly bring Bernice and her group back to the village, making their presence known to facilitate future plans.

One evening, as Allen was about to sleep in his wooden cabin, the maid assigned to monitor him suddenly knocked and entered.

"Captain Allen, the lord requests your presence. Please follow me immediately," the maid said, her tone more respectful than before, reflecting Allen's growing favor with Little Obion.

This change was the result of Allen gradually showcasing his talents over the past ten days.

Initially, Little Obion was not comfortable entrusting such an important task to a commoner like Allen.

But given Allen's successful track record, Little Obion couldn't risk bringing in a stranger.

So, Little Obion generously sought some basic medical texts and difficult-to-prepare recipes from his father.

Every evening, Allen would return to the forest officer's residence to study the medical texts and practice preparing potions under Little Obion's watchful eye.

During this time, Little Obion, unwilling to give up, joined Allen in studying the medical texts and practicing potion-making.

However, lacking any talent in this area, Little Obion could only grasp the basics.

Allen successfully prepared a series of potions, starting with simple insect repellents, then moving on to remedies for minor injuries, and finally internal medicines for fever and stomach pain.

Each success further demonstrated Allen's growing expertise in potion-making under Little Obion's surveillance.

After numerous tests, Little Obion grew increasingly impressed with Allen.

"Being summoned so late and urgently... If my guess is correct, he must have found the inferior magical brain mushroom!" Allen thought, suspecting that Little Obion had leveraged his family's resources to locate the fungus.

Sure enough, when Allen followed the maid into the tunnel and through a slightly low wooden door, he found Little Obion anxiously waiting.

The miserly Little Obion appeared restless, his impatience evident. On the table to his right was a redwood box.

Allen approached, "My lord, did you find it?"

Little Obion dismissed all the servants and locked the door before speaking to Allen, "We obtained the human brain fungus! Tonight, you will prepare the Awakening Potion for me!"

Allen feigned joy, "Congratulations, my lord! Tonight, you shall gain great power!"

"Enough talk! Hurry up! If you mess up tonight, watch your life!" Little Obion, too anxious for Allen's flattery, commanded him to start preparing the potion.

The potion room was a converted secret chamber of Little Obion.

It was equipped with various scales, spoons, cauldrons, and containers, all personally purchased by Little Obion.

He even insisted on chopping the firewood himself.

Such caution was to prevent any mishaps and to keep an eye on Allen.

While this setup might deter ordinary people, it was ineffective against a Plant Mage like Allen.

Allen meticulously followed the steps, making no mistakes, and respectfully began preparing the potion.

The recipe given to Little Obion included many precious materials that were useless for the Plant Mage's Curse and even had some negative effects.

Allen used his natural Plant Mage powers to secretly neutralize the effects of the irrelevant materials with green mist.

Thus, these irrelevant materials in the potion acted like harmless water.

Allen could also use Little Obion's name to gather the precious items he needed.

As time passed, Allen, under Little Obion's watchful eye, added all the materials to the cauldron.

Minutes later, the potion began to boil.

A pungent yet intoxicating aroma filled the underground chamber, emanating from the steaming potion.

Little Obion, smelling the aroma, was like a hungry bee drawn to flowers, eager to drink it all.

But he restrained his greed, waiting for the charcoal's heat to dissipate and the potion to calm down.

Little Obion then looked at Allen, his eyes filled with greed and desire, "You, drink a spoonful!"

"Thank you for your generosity, my lord!" Allen, instead of being angry, gratefully took a spoon, scooped a full spoonful of the hot potion, and drank it under Little Obion's watchful eyes.

"Gulp—!"

The hot potion went down Allen's throat.

He quickly sat cross-legged as instructed by Little Obion.

Moments later, the potion's effects kicked in, beads of sweat formed on Allen's forehead, his body trembled, and he let out a contented moan.

Little Obion watched Allen intently...

"Come, arm wrestle with me!" Little Obion commanded as soon as Allen regained his composure.

Allen, pretending to be enthusiastic, stepped forward to arm wrestle.

Their wrists locked on the table, and they began to wrestle.

"What~!" Little Obion exclaimed in surprise, then exerted force, slamming Allen's wrist onto the table.

Despite Allen's strength still being inferior, Little Obion could clearly feel Allen's increased power!

It seemed that with more potion, Allen, a commoner, could surpass his noble bloodline strength.

Little Obion, who had trained in swordsmanship and physical conditioning since childhood, was astonished.

"Is this the power of the secret potion!?" Little Obion's eyes gleamed with red light.

Seeing the potion was safe and effective, Little Obion's greed and desire were uncontrollable.

After continuous testing and tonight's successful potion-making, Little Obion finally trusted Allen.

He planned to consume the entire Awakening Potion now, with Allen as his chosen guardian.

This genuine trust in Allen, even above his wife, was significant.

Hearing Little Obion's order to guard him, Allen was overjoyed.

Although he wouldn't harm Little Obion during the potion's effect, this trust provided Allen with great convenience for his plans.

As Little Obion drank the entire potion, Allen stood by, like a loyal sentinel.

When the potion's effects began and Little Obion fell into a trance, Allen's aura changed. Green mist emanated from his body, enveloping the oblivious Little Obion completely!
