Chapter 9

Jackson lifts an unconscious Lily into his arms and mind linked some pack member to help Cody. Hannah tried handing a bottle of water to him but he knocked it over.

“Stay away from me. This is all your fault.” He croaked out. She looked absolutely hurt by his statement but he didn’t care.

Jackson wondered what was going on between them but didn’t ask. Instead he started to leave but Cody’s voice stopped him.

“What are you going to do about her? She almost ended me.” He said raising himself from the ground while muffling a groan.

“what I do with her is none of your concern.” Jackson replied curtly.

Cody looked flabbergasted.

“You’re joking right?” he asked with a mix of a cough and a laugh.

Jackson didn’t say anything, he just simply continued towards the door. Cody knew better than to go against him.

As he stepped out into the open and head to his car pack he noticed Hannah running after him looking out of breath. He settled Lily into the front seat of the car and snapping on her seat belt before turning his attention to Hannah.

“h-hi” she said nervously. She didn’t think there was a day that she would talk to the next pack alpha. Jackson stared at her, his piercing gaze making her uncomfortable.

“Where are you taking Lily? She didn’t mean to do what she did.” Hannah blurted out before she couldn’t find her voice again. ‘

Jackson ignored the fact that a mere pack member questioned him and focused on the second sentence.

“What do you mean by she didn’t mean what she did?” he grunted.

Hannah looked as if she was caught in bright head lights.

“She is a powerful person. She just doesn’t know how to control her powers.” Hannah said quietly.

“What do you mean by powerful?”

“You can’t tell anyone but Lily is a half witch and for the past week her powers have been acting out. It’s like she goes into a trance. It’s not her fault she’s like this.” Hannah rushed out in Lily’s defence.

“Are you saying that this has happened before?” Jackson asked. He couldn’t believe his ears. He always thought that he and Lily were very close but this opened his eyes to other possibilities. He wondered what Lily has been hiding from him.

“Yes…last time it was Kimberly that was attacked-but she did it out of defence. Kimberly attacked first.” Hannah said breaking his thoughts.

Jackson remembered Kimberly, she was Cole’s little sister. He sighed in both confusion and hurt that Lily didn’t trust him enough to tell him all these.

“Thanks for the information but I’m not going to hurt Lily.” Jackson said to soothe Hannah’s fears. She gave a visible sigh of relief and broke into a smile.

“Thank you…alpha.” She said casting one more look at Lily before turning to go.

Jackson was happy that at least Lily had a good friend she can count on. He turned on his engine and zoomed unto the road.

His mind was a mess. He thought witches were extinct if not impossible to come across. It meant that either one of Lily’s parents was a full witch or he guessed that it was her mother.

‘Was that the reason Lily’s mother left when she was so little’? he thought.

He almost crashed when the pieces came together. The reason they had a huge argument before he went for his alpha training. He had destroyed the only thing her mother left behind for her. A book. He wondered if it was a book of spells as he resumed his driving. Jackson gave Lily a sideways glance and stared at her soft features as she breathe in deeply meaning she was sleeping.

He drove into to the pack house and carried Lily inside. He was glad not a lot of people were around because he didn’t want rumours to start spreading. He took her to the pack doctor and placed her on the bed.

The pack doctor wasn’t around so he left a note stating he should take care of her and run some tests on her.

The caring look on Jackson’s face wiped off immediately he left the room replied with a stony exterior. He head to the supernatural library where books on different supernatural creatures have been collected over the centuries.

The library is located at the top of the building with only access to a few people. Jackson was one of them.

He tried to shake of the chill that ran through his spine when he remembered when the look in Lily’s eyes when she was sucking the life out of Cody. He looked like she enjoyed what was going on, her purple eyes blazing ready to kill anyone who stopped her.

It wasn’t the Lily he knew or remembered. He never saw the signs of her being a witch.

Jackson scanned through the library looked for something anything her could find about witches. He needed to believe and prove that witches aren’t evil to both himself and Lily.

He picked up one of the only books he could find on witches. It was bounded by human flesh it seemed and the pages were really old. Ignoring this, Jackson opened it and purple light shone from it. The letters were impossible to read it seemed the same as Lily’s spell book.

The letters swam around each other like an alphabet cereal and began arranging itself properly.

Hello mate of a half witch

It said. Jackson blinked twice to make sure what he was seeing was real. It just confirmed that Lily was a half witch.

He wondered if he could ask it questions so he tried his luck.

“Why are witches hiding?” he asked filled with apprehension as the letters swirled around each other almost making him dizzy from looking at it.

Their blood.

The words formed and filled Jackson with dread.
