I tapped my pen against the polished surface of the conference table, barely holding onto my patience as the meeting dragged on.
This was supposed to be important. A big deal. These were influential people, sitting in a high-rise office in New York, discussing partnerships and future collaborations, and yet—I was dying of boredom.
The air in the room was thick with corporate nonsense. Someone was droning on about "synergizing business strategies" and "leveraging market influence" in a tone so dull I was genuinely considering throwing myself out the window just for a change of scenery.
I tried to focus. I really did.
But then my mind betrayed me.
I could only think about Elena.
