Chapter 15: agreement

[Guard POV]

This morning the chief called me and my brother at the palace. He gave us the mission to protect prince Hahn during the meeting with a spirit.

We both agreed since we knew that the prince was talented enough to help the whole tribe develop.

The moment we actualy saw the spirit, both me and my brother raised our guard. It's humanoid form meant that it was far beyond the spirits we usually meet when hunting. It meant that this spirit has intelligence and power we most likely cannot fight against.

The only thing that helped me keep my calm is the polite way it was talking with the prince.

After the talk was done, and the spirit left we camped outside and started sharing our opinions.

"So as the strongest and most experinced hunters in the tribe, what do you think about our guest." asked the prince clearly curious about our opinion.

"He is dangerous. He may seem harmless but I can feel the immense power inside his body ready to be used." my brother said.

His insticts have been proven to be accurate during our hunting. If he thinks so we should be extra careful around him.

"Since he seems to like obtainig knowledge we can assume he is extremely intelligent. That would make any kind of fight risky, since he is aware of our powers but we know nothing about him." I shared my thoughts.

"I see. We will meet him tomorrow and try to have some agreement with him. If giving him knowledge can help us avoid unessessary conflict with an unknown enemy, it would be wise to share the knowledge." Said the prince in a weird tone.

After the conversation we ate some of the food we brought with us and went to sleep.

[Morning]

[Third POV]

*TOOT*

With the sound of the horn, a second meeting took place between Solon and Hahn.

"So, may know what you have decided." asked Solon.

"We can teach you about water and the way we use it, however we wish to make a contract with you for it." stated Hahn directly.

"That is reasonable. What is it that you wish this contract to entail?"

"We have 2 requirements. First of all, I want for all knowledge you manage to obtain through this knowledge to be shared with us."

"That is acceptable."

"I also wish for you not to go against my tribe in any way or form, indefinitely." asked Hahn

"I am afraid that this is not something I can promise. I can't trust that you or your tribe in general won't act against me in the present or future."

"Hmm... How about this then. You cannot act in a way that affects negatively our tribe in the next 100 years. In exchange the water tribe won't try and harm you during that time. Is that ok with you?"

"Very well."

"So shall we make a contract?"

"Yes." said Solon as Hahn took a piece of parchment from his guards and wrote everything down. Hahn passed the conctact to Solon.

"I have to inform you that making a contract with a spirit is not the same as making one with a human." commented Solon as he read through the parchment.

"What's the difference?"

{Flashback}

Chronos was sitting on a cushion he had created sipping tea.

"Solon, you must remember that contracts are sacred for spirits, they will be respected no matter what. Once a contract is made, it will bind the ones who agreed on it. The moment the contract is broken, both sides will be immediately notified and the agreement is nulled."

"Why are they so respected?" asked Solon confused.

"Because of pride and the spirits. Spirits innately are prideful so during their creation the believed that breaking an agreement was beneath them. Due to that belief, the energy that spirits are made of, evolved to make it a reality. As a result of that evolution no spirit, other than concept-level spirits can go against their contracts."

"If I am not affected by that rule, why did you explain it to me?" he asked Chronos.

"Because the only ones who know about it are beings of our levels. By giving that knowledge to someone you make a contract with, it will make it easier for him to trust you, under the assumption that he believes you."

{flashback end}

After explaining these details to Hahn, Solon turned to him and said.

"Now that you are aware of this, do you still want to make an agreement with me?"

'Assuming that this information is true, he can't escape the clauses and I left enough loopholes in them that I can take advantage of him. ' though Hahn

"I agree."

The moment those words were spoken the piece of parchment is Hahn's hand glowed for a single second before it stopped.

"With this our agreement is complete. I will come here tomorrow morning for our first lesson." said Solon as he took Uxie and started walking towards his camp.

'You fool do you really think that just because you are a spirit you are unable to be deceived? I will make sure to destroy you.' thought Hahn with a mocking smile.

"Prince Hahn, are you sure that this was a wise move? If something goes wrong it could lead to the death of hundreds of people. What if he lied to you?" asked Hahn's guard from behind him.

"Spirits don't lie. Their pride doesn't allow it. I will take advantage of that and force him to give me a large amount of techniques and knowledge. That way I can finally obtain my rightful place as the chief."

'The prince is getting worse.' thought the second guard as he looked at Hahn worried.
