They were creatures more intelligent, cunning, and cruel. These new entities, nicknamed "The Shadows," were leaders among the APX-WET. They communicated telepathically and coordinated strategic attacks against humans. Their origin was unknown, but it was rumored that they arose from the fusion of infected minds, creating an evil collective consciousness. The Shadows developed supernatural abilities, such as the ability to manipulate the shadows around them until they transformed into a powerful Giant in the shape of a shadow over 60 meters tall. They could hide in the darkness and emerge from nowhere, taking their victims by surprise. This new threat elevated the struggle of Legion 101 to an even more dangerous level.

As Legion 101 dealt with this new threat, they discovered that the Shadows had a hierarchy. A supreme leader, known only as "The Founding Power," directed his subjects from the deepest shadows.
