Thursdays weren't much of a special day. Except for 2 classes that Veritas needed to attend,Veritas is entirely free to spend his time.
At 8 AM in the morning, Veritas would go to History class, which was his most favorite out of all the 4 minor subjects that he partook in.
Veritas didn't notice any classmates from Sacred Echelon, of course, it was obvious, nobility wouldn't spend their free time for something as trivial as learning history.
But what they didn't know is by learning the past, we can predict outcomes in the future.
Veritas believed in the quote "History repeats itself". But it was quite hypocritical because he was someone trying to prevent a desolate future from happening.
Still though, History Class is quite interesting even if Veritas had already learned 90% of what's being taught. He liked the vibes of the room, it was as boring as it gets. Dim lights, cold atmosphere, and students that slumbered peacefully.
He wondered if people actually attended History class for an additional time to sleep, or did they actually wanted to learn.
Veritas was the latter, naturally.
Veritas only saw one other student that was listening attentively. Based on her appearance, she was someone from the Knights Curriculum.
She was listening quite attentively to the Professor's words and stared at the projected light in front of her like she was in a trance.
Veritas arrived quite late to the classroom due to the uproar that he caused last week.
That time, when he entered the classroom early, everyone was surprised by his presence and Veritas could feel the atmosphere of the room tense up.
It was quite the contrast when compared to the classroom of the present. Everyone pretended to be awake and listen to the boring historical lessons, but now... Most of them were sleeping.
'Helpless, history is an amazing subject you know..'
Veritas looked quite saddened.
Many people have been missing out in learning the great events that transpired in the past!
'I bet none of them knows the true nature of our planet and its ancient civilization!'
To put it simply, before the Elrodians and other inhabitants of the continents, there was a more advanced civilization that existed.
This was not common knowledge to people, one must dive deeper and to extensive research in order to come to a conclusion
Although.. this was still a theory that was deduced by Veritas. As there were reports of remnants of ancient humans, Veritas pieced together the related literature and came up with a paper himself.
He...had not published it yet though, he wanted to have concrete evidence first before sharing the knowledge about the existence of ancient humans.
After he became a Pathbearer, he pondered if the Golden City was also a part of that civilization. But, Veritas decided against that thought.
For one, they did not meet the criteria of technologically advanced or what not. And two, it seemed otherwordly, that even though it came from the past.. it still wouldn't make sense for that city to exist.
Veritas did some searching but could not find a city named Solaurum to be recorded in history.
Additionally, a city made out of Gold would have to be a global attraction. There would be many rumors of it, and sightings to be spread!
Veritas considered the existence of a parallel world but he shook his head with that thought.
Even in a world full of mystics, it still wouldn't make sense for that to exist.
Thus, Veritas held quite a few theories to support the existence of the Golden City.
One, it would be on a planet different from Earth. And two, it was still something undiscovered, maybe even beyond the kingdom of Elrod.
"It might seem like stories from fairy tales but the existence of Hell is real."
Veritas and the one other person sat straight up to listen to the Professor.
"As far as humanity knows, there are only 4 layers that have been explored."
He continued:
"The esteemed Hero of Humanity, and Progenitor of Soul Flames, Ignis, ventured through the Layers of Hell alone. He lit the Hell ablaze, making the flames roar louder, evaporating the seas, melting the snows, and lastly.. lighting up the darkness."
It was all exaggeratuon though, the unique nature of Hell could not be altered by anyone. They were created by the Demons of Old and it would take a deity to even change the nature of Hell.
The History Professor continued:
"Even still, Hero Ignis only reached the depths of Layer 4, it was a great feat to even get to Layer 1 or 2, but to reach Layer 4! He was truly a legend."
Veritas knew the legends of Ignis, but it was not as exaggerated as the Professor told it to be.
In the real story, Ignis had a troupe with him. Although it was not reported who they were, Ignis still needed a team in order to descend down the Layers.
Heroes needed fame, and retelling stories of Ignis' adventures in Hell was something that gave hope to many people.
They would say: "If Hero Ignis could descend 4 Layers down hell, then I would be able to do my family's laundry!". Or something like that..
Veritas admired the Hero greatly, no other human could achieve the feats that he and his party did!
"I hope that someday.. another individual would surpass Hero Ignis. That would open a great source of research and exploration."
The Professor stopped for a second and breathed deep.
"I understand that it's dangerous.. But to be exposed to such lengths of knowledge, it is a dream of mine."
Veritas listened more to the Professor's teachings, it went on for an hour before finally ending. The students were awoken by the return of the light and they all acted like they had just learned something great.
After a minute passed, most of them left except for Veritas and that other student. It seemed that she was aiming to ask the Professor.
"Uhm.. Professor, I have a few questions to ask."
While fixing his things, the Professor stopped to look at the young student.
"Ms. Agnecia, one of the few people that actually listened to my lectures, you can ask away your questions.."
"Well you see, I am quite curious about the resolute people that dive into Hell. My dream is to one day explore it myself hehe-"
Awkward yet straight to the point, Veritas continued watching.
"Young girl, Hell is not a place to be dreamed of. You should not even consider diving into it.. a mere second upon entering, your body would turn into ashes."
The girl looked down and was dejected by the Professor's denial of knowledge. He saw this and felt bad for the kid, still.. it was not his position to give such amazing information.
"Then, I must take my leave. Please, Ms. Agnecia.. do not descend down to Hell, it is not supposed to be a dream land. It is a ruin that destroys and kills, it might be harsh to say.. but a normal human like you could not hope to survive down there."
He warned:
"Your curiosity will only get you killed."
With that, the Professor left the classroom.
He noticed Veritas and gave a respectful bow after stopping in the middle of his walk. After that, he exited the room and headed back to the faculty.
'Quite a scene there... that girl's dreams were crushed so instantly.'
It would be unpleasant to leave her dejected and saddened, so Veritas waited for her to calm down.
Then, Veritas also got up and left after the girl regained her calm.
Outside, the halls were as normal as ever. There were many groups formed, and friends hanging out with each other.
The bell rang which signified the end of their first subject.
'My next subject is in the afternoon.. I should go meet with Alice and the others.'
Veritas headed to the cafeteria where the four of them always grouped together.
Suddenly, after the bell rang, an announcement was made for the students to hear.
"This is an announcement from the Student Council President. All students, please head over to the main hall at 1 PM. An important announcement will be held by the President. I repeat.. Please head-"
Veritas heard the announcement a couple more times, and pondered what the announcement would be. Suddenly, he remembered Mr. Freedom's warning.
"Investigate the Student Council!"
Veritas had doubts about the Student Council when he first enrolled. Although there was no evidence that supported his doubt, he had an instinctual feeling that sensed the Student Council to be suspicious.
But now.. hearing Mr. Freedom's warning, Veritas was even more sure of that feeling.
'I wonder what the announcement was all about..'
He did not know.. Additionally, this could be a normal occurrence in Knights Academy, so Veritas would ask Leo and Hana later.
It could be something important like a delegation, political stuff, a change in leadership, and many more!
Thus, Veritas continued walking to the cafeteria, passing through the bustling crowds of students in the halls.
