"Is that how you treat people?"
After the rocket exploded, Liam patted his slightly singed, Rayleigh-style messy hair.
His terrifying display had not only caused the dark-skinned natives to recoil in fear and constantly raise their weapons, but even the giant birds - well aware of the destructive power of those missiles - shuddered in fear, their feathers trembling.
Is he really human?
Is his body made of steel?
Liam yawned and stretched slightly, "By the way, who was the one who blew me up earlier?"
At his words, the natives swallowed nervously and took a collective step back.
---
The Kuja pirate ship slowly docked at the shore.
Hancock fastened her collar and walked out of the cabin, clearly annoyed. "Why is it so noisy out here?"
As she looked up and saw the island up close, she realized they had arrived at their destination.
"Just before we got here, the giant mutant birds and the human inhabitants of the island immediately attacked us..." One of the female warriors quickly explained to Hancock with a smile. "Luckily, thanks to Princess Jolyne and Giorno, we were able to handle it, otherwise it could have been really dangerous... The feathers and bodies of those mutant birds are so tough that even Haki arrows can't kill them... And those strange missiles..."
"Alright, enough, let's disembark," Hancock interrupted and went to the front of the ship. Immediately, two Snakes bowed their heads respectfully as Hancock stepped on them and climbed up to the shore.
The female warriors on deck were busy dropping the anchor, leaving some to guard the ship and others to follow Hancock and Princess Jolyne ashore.
Robin walked through the forest at Hancock's side. At the same time, she used her 'Flower-Flower Fruit' (Hana Hana no Mi) ability to cause flowers to bloom on the giant tree ahead, growing eyes on each layer.
"There are a lot of plants I've never seen before..."
As Robin's flower eyes blossomed in the treetops, she watched the strange sights above.
Suddenly, she noticed one of the fledglings fall from the giant bird's nest, chirping desperately as it tumbled to the ground.
Following Hancock, the group soon found Liam.
He was sitting comfortably on the back of one of the giant birds, playing with a high-tech rocket launcher. Meanwhile, the dark-skinned natives were using their herbal remedies to treat the injured giant birds.
Each of the natives had a swollen lump on his head, hissing in pain and needing treatment as well.
The giant birds, wary of humans, naturally didn't want to be touched. However, with the more terrifying human nearby, they dared not resist.
"You see, why fight and kill?" Liam said with a smile. "Why not sit down and talk things over calmly?"
He casually threw the rocket gun at Hancock and the others.
The Kuja warriors were startled, but Hancock caught it effortlessly and examined it. "Is this your idea of a 'harvest'?"
The female warriors explained the weapon's power, and Hancock nodded after looking at Liam. "Not bad."
For them personally, the weapon's power might not match their 'Busoshoku Haki'-enhanced arrows, but for the people of Kuja Island, while every citizen is a warrior, not everyone has mastered Haki.
Even warriors with Haki can become exhausted in long battles, so having additional weapons like these rockets could be useful.
When the dark-skinned natives saw the beautifully decorated Kuja warriors, they were already enchanted.
Especially when they saw Hancock, whose beauty surpassed anything they had ever imagined.
One particularly large native suddenly fainted with a happy sigh.
The warriors chuckled softly among themselves.
Hancock, uninterested in their antics, suddenly looked toward a nearby hill. Sounds came from the other side of the slope, and soon another group of dark-skinned natives appeared, charging at them with weapons raised.
"More people from the Torino Kingdom?" A middle-aged female warrior muttered while clutching her sword tightly.
Just then, strange shouts came from above. They looked up and saw another group of giant birds flying towards them. These birds had not been on the island before, but when they returned, they found that their companions had been attacked by humans, so they became enraged.
Liam's mount, a giant bird wrapped in bandages and covered in herbs, tried to scream in defiance.
Liam smiled at Hancock. "Your turn, Empress."
The title, which came naturally to her among the Amazon Lily warriors, caused Hancock to purse her lips and stare at Liam with a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance.
Suddenly, an overwhelming aura erupted from Hancock's body and swept over the area.
"Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh... ugh..." The dark-skinned natives charging up from the hillside, screaming loudly, suddenly rolled back their eyes, foamed at the mouth, and collapsed to the ground in disarray.
"Ga-ga-ga?" The giant birds that had swooped down from the sky also let out a creaking scream, their beaks frothing with white foam. One by one, they crashed to the ground, falling like raindrops.
''Haoshoku Haki!''
Robin looked at the others. Under Hancock's careful control, her Haoshoku Haki only affected the giant birds swooping down from above and another group of dark-skinned natives. The Kuja warriors and the injured giant birds and natives that Liam had knocked out were unaffected.
Remembering Liam's earlier speculations about Haoshoku Haki, Robin raised her hand thoughtfully. The fledgling bird she had caught in mid-air was carefully placed on the trunk, and her flowered hands reached down and handed it to her.
"Cheep..." The fledgling chirped in Robin's hands, and soon the injured giant bird under Liam also joined in with a cry.
"Is this your child?"
Liam jumped down to the ground as Robin placed the fledgling before the giant bird. The fledgling and the giant bird rubbed their heads together, softly chirping.
The other treated giant birds also began to call out in response.
The giant birds and dark-skinned natives, who had been stunned by the Haoshoku Haki, slowly regained consciousness. Upon seeing the harmonious interaction between the humans and the birds, they were momentarily stunned.
"You see, peaceable coexistence is a good thing, right?"
Liam clapped his hands and laughed. "So, it's time to collect some compensation, don't you think?"
---
Although Liam and his group didn't have a Chopper who could speak both human and animal languages, Liam already knew the source of the conflict between the humans and birds on this island.
It was simple: the dark-skinned natives wanted to harvest special plants from the tall trees for herbal medicine, and the giant-scale birds, living in the trees, mistakenly believed that these humans were trying to steal their eggs and harm their kin, just like those who had driven them from their homeland in the past.
Liam didn't quite understand why the misunderstanding between humans and animals on this island had persisted for so long when animals with human-like intelligence were common in this world.
Moreover, while there was no Chopper, the women of Kuja raised snakes. Their pet snakes, raised since childhood, were closely bonded with them. In battle, with a simple touch, the snakes would immediately understand, tensing their bodies and transforming into bows.
Although the snakes didn't speak human language, they could communicate with animals. After hearing their master's words, Hancock's pet snake, Salome, slithered up to the giant birds and hissed, flicking its tongue.
The giant birds responded with chaotic calls, seemingly communicating in their own way. Soon, the misunderstanding between the giant birds and the Torino Kingdom's dark-skinned natives was resolved, and old grudges were forgiven.
As a gesture of goodwill, the giant birds agreed to let the humans climb the trees and pick plants freely, as they had no need for them themselves.
Hancock didn't hesitate and ordered her female warriors to follow the natives to gather plant seeds, sort them by type, and prepare to take them back to Kuja Island.
The simple, kind-hearted dark-skinned natives of Torino Kingdom warmly invited them to stay as guests.
However, Hancock wasn't interested in the food, and instead, followed Liam and Robin into a massive library, guided by the locals.
"There are tens of thousands of books... Even if you only read the medical books and not the technical ones, it would be impossible to finish in a short time..." The dark-skinned guide kindly reminded them. "Even the top doctors would need at least 3 to 4 years to read through all these professional medical books!"
