Chapter 40 CHAPTER

WONWOO’s POV

This situation was as bad as a normal girlfriend finding your hands down another woman’s pants. Granted, Areum was far from normal, but she had a woman’s mind, body and soul. There was no doubt she would think like one too. I had to thread through this situation very carefully. I didn’t want to hurt the mermaid’s feelings any more than I’d already had.

I touched her hand and she pulled back abruptly like I’d poked her with a hot iron rod. I sighed. This was going to be harder than I imagined.

Hesitatingly, I brushed the locks of wet gold hair away from her face and grazed her cheek with the back of my hand. “Areum, please let me explain.” I whispered.

The downpour was the only sound with the wipers slashing away at the windshield. The trees whooshed, and there was the harsh wind indicating a storm. It was quite common to have storms in our town.

I took her silence as an invitation to keep talking. “What you saw there at the kitchen, it’s not what it seems like.”
