When we arrived back at the house, the faint aroma of food was still lingering in the room. It smelled of grilled chicken and cake. One glance at the kitchen counter told me why.


I turned to Areum. “Did you do that?”


The mermaid pressed her lips together and tried to avoid eye contact. “I…I cooked for you.” she stuttered.


My eyes widened in surprise. “Did you?”


She nodded. “I packed everything and brought it to Seungkwan’s house to surprise you, but I forgot all the food there.”


“Thank you, Areum. It means so much to me.”


Her eyes lit up with the small compliment. “I think there still might be some leftovers if you’d like to try.”


“I would love to.” I said as I followed her into the kitchen and raised the lid to find only three slices of the remaining cheesecake and a plate of spaghetti. “Where did you put the packed food, Areum?”


“I gave the basket to Seungkwan. He probably ate it.” she shrugged.
