Chapter 40 FEEL BETTER

Samantha’s POV

I was expecting some sort of remark from Caleb but I got none. Just a simple answer and that was enough to keep me going.

“Sure, little kitten,” Caleb responded, his voice getting slightly deeper. The tension that pulled us together was still palpable through the phone. “I’m here at the bar.”

“No, I mean, I just want to talk?” this time my voice came out a lot shakier. My shoulders swelled in a held-back sob. I squeezed my eyes shut to stop the tears that were threatening to fall down.

“Of course,” he said. “Hey, are you okay?” he asked after a slight pause. Caleb sounded concerned. I just hope he didn’t mistakenly think I was calling just for sex because I wasn’t.

“I’m…” I couldn’t say I’m fine because I am not really. “I don’t know…” I said instead. I don’t feel like I wanted to tell him everything over the phone.

“Alright, well you don’t sound good. Come over here, baby. We’ll talk about it.”

I sighed. “Okay, I’ll be there in 15,” I said, finally hanging up.
