“Please be my date on Saturday night’s party…” Mr. Easton Gonzalez said after submitting the report I had written earlier. The yellow folder he was handing me back hung in the air as I stared at him in shock.
"Excuse me?" I shrieked, my gaze fixed on his. "I'm not going on a date with you!" I exclaimed, glaring at my boss.
“Don’t worry Miss Bell, it’s a fake date…” my boss informed me and I felt like I was splashed with cold water on the face.
Easton Gonzalez, the CEO of Gonzalez Steel Manufacturing and Industries asked his personal assistant Chloe Bell to be his fake date on their company’s Silver Anniversary to annoy and upset his ex-wife who cheated on him with his best friend. ‘‘So, you’re casually dating my son, huh?’’ Mrs. Gonzales asked me as soon as Easton stood up and went to talk to someone at the table beside us. Her gaze fell on the necklace I was wearing and I don’t know why there was a glint of happiness in her eyes.


‘‘Yes…’’ I answered softly. ‘‘I don’t think Easton is ready for another serious relationship yet, and neither am I…’’


That was the only thing that came to me as the most appropriate response to provide her with… so that she wouldn't become suspicious of anything else. I hated having to lie. Easton believed that I was the most honest person he knew, but since he was the one who gave me this order, all I was doing was carrying out his instructions.


‘‘Give him time, Chloe…’’ she smiled genuinely at me. ‘‘Rosie was never good enough for him. I never liked that woman for my son because she never loved Easton. She only wants him for money...’’
