I heaved a sigh, diverting my eyes to the envelope that was sitting on my desk. I went back and got the document, and just as I was going to look at the backup plan that my father had developed, I caught a glimpse of a person out of the corner of my eye, and my head jerked up to look at her.
‘‘Miss Rivers, haven't I told you that you're free to leave now?’’ I stated firmly, stressing each syllable as I spoke. I was also attempting to intimidate her in order to put some distance between the two of us.
‘‘Uhm… Sir, I…’’
‘‘What…?’’
‘‘I have something to tell you...’’ She spoke in a weak and trembling voice.
‘‘I’m in a hurry. Let’s just talk about this tomorrow…’’ I brushed her off once more, continued walking toward the door while clutching the envelope beneath my arms.
