‘‘James, please…’’ Clover's expression changed instantaneously from feral to calmed. Her breaths were panting out, as if she was running out of air. ‘‘I didn’t know what came over me, or why I did that. Don’t take it seriously. You know, I’m willing to sleep with you. Do whatever you want to me in bed, just to solve this problem…’’

James slowly removed Clover’s hand from holding his upper arm as if he had been burned. ‘‘I’m sorry, but I’m not interested in you…’’

There was a long beat of silence, punctuated by Clover’s noisy, jerky breaths.

I leaned back placidly, narrowed my eyes at her as I studied her. ‘‘I am so disappointed in you, Clover…’’ I said softly, but I made sure that she could feel the firmness in my tone.

‘‘Officers, please arrest this woman!’’ Raphael ordered, and Clover’s eyes gone glassy as she glared at me.
