For an hour, I roamed the city, pondering my destination at such a late hour. I reached out to James, hoping he would join me, but he didn't respond to my calls. Eventually, I made a U-turn, decided to drop by his house. It had been a long time since I had been to his house—the day my father kicked me out, if I remember correctly.

I managed a single knock before James pulled the door open. He took in my rumpled state and raised an eyebrow at me in surprise.

''You look terrible, man!'' he exclaimed, moving aside to let me into his house. As I passed by him, he sniffed the air and wrinkled his nose. ''Damn! You smell just as bad!''

''Shut up!'' I scoffed, and he laughed aloud, closing the door behind him. Then he turned, his gaze narrowing as he looked at me, his arms crossed over his chest. ''You only come to see me when there's a serious issue. What's wrong?''
