They won't be caught....

Bonnie's wrist grew hotter as the infinity symbol came out. Drums filled the air as the loops grew larger and wrapped themselves around Dixie's waist. The insignia glowed brightly.

Hildegarde shielded her eyes as she watched in disbelief. "Master Alexander! What is happening?"

"It's the drumming. Her soul is being affected." Bonnie whispered.

"What drumming?" Hildegarde was confused.

"I think the symbol is going to heal her. It saved us once before, it'll do so again."

As if waiting for that command, the magical rune flooded Dixie's body with restorative power. The blood she lost was replaced as her red blood cells worked twice as hard. Her heart beat faster, sweat drenched her body and her cheeks returned to their rosey hue.

Suddenly, voices filled the air as Hildegarde's cabin was stormed by armed knights. The symbol vanished and the drumming ceased. The knights were briefly startled by the flash of light before they started their interrogation.

"What has happened here!? Who is responsible for the massacre?!"

Bonnie checked Dixie's pulse and breathed a sign of relief. So too did Hildegarde when she saw that the little lady was no longer bleeding nor deathly pale.

A sharp jerk on her shoulders whirled Bonnie around to face the angry glare of the Knight Captain.

"I asked you a question! Who are you and what has happened here!? You will be arrested and charged if you don't start talking!"

Bonnie gritted her teeth. It was just one shitty situation into another. She saw that the four knights who had stormed the cabin all had their swords drawn and pointed at her. They didn't pay the weeping old woman any regard. Looking over their shoulders, Bonnie could see more knights and some spectators gathered near the hedges.

"We were attacked! Obviously! And how do you not know who I am? Did you not see the carriage with the insignia of Del Montague parked right outside?!"

The knight stepped back. "Lord Alexander, I meant no disrespect."

Bonnie blew air out through her lips. "Never mind us, we're fine. Have you searched the bodies of the assassins for information?"

The large man nodded. "It's being done as we speak."

"Nana, stay here with my sister while I sort this out. She's out of the danger zone now. The glowey thing did its job."

Hildegarde nodded, her mind burning with curiosity and apprehension.

"Lord Alexander, are you hurt?" Another knight asked. All five of them were eyeing the Young Master's exposed torso and the blood that covered him.

"This is not my blood. Not all of it, anyway. Most of it belongs to those cowards who attacked us!" Bonnie replied harshly as she stalked outside.

Taking a thorough look around, she concurred that this incident would make headlines. It was akin to the remnants of a zombie attack. After all, she had dismembered most of the assailants. It was not her intention to do so, but the Holy Sword was simply too strong. It simply destroyed anything it struck.

There was crowd of spectators. Some closer than others. A few watching from their windows or porches.

"Those rats killed all of our men. We were ambushed and taken unaware." Bonnie growled. "There were three who got away and I think one more. I was shot with an arrow from the east."

"I already have my men scouring the entire area. If the assailants are still in the vicinity, we will catch them." The knight declared.

Bonnie shook her head. "Those assassins were highly trained and came out of nowhere. I doubt your men will be able to find them. The only thing those rats would have to do is change clothes and take off their masks. Then they'll blend in as civilians."

"Lord Alexander, from our examination there are only six knights from your household here with you, but the number of assassins exceeds 20. How is it that you, the old woman and your sister are not dead as well?"

"Because I am the super badass!" Bonnie boasted.

"Pardon?"

"Never mind. Let's just say I can fight very well. It takes a lot to overwhelm me; that's why those three fled. They knew they were going to be killed."

One of the subordinate knights approached them. "Sir Edgar, we have not found any identification on the bodies of the masked men."

"Of course not. They'll cover their tracks. Whoever sent them to kill us was very determined, but I doubt they would be careless. Obviously they knew some of their rodents were going to get stomped on." Bonnie stated.

"We will need to fetch an artist and have the faces of these men plastered all over the city." Sir Edgar commented.

"Gather the bodies of all the Del Montague knights and put them in our carriage. Have your guards escort them back to the Dukedom. Also, inform the Grand Duke of what has happened. Tell him that my sister and I will be arriving shortly." Bonnie ordered.

The subordinate knight bowed and went off to do as instructed.

"Sir Edgar, I need a carriage for my sister and Nanny. Have them completely barricaded during the journey. Spare no expense for those cowards may strike again!"

Sir Edgar nodded. Before he left, Bonnie grabbed his shoulder. "What of our coachman? Has his body been accounted for? Is he among the deceased?"

"I'm not certain, my lord. I will find out." He walked off.

"Lord Del Montague, is that you?"

Bonnie turned towards the voice and spotted a commoner staring at him. "Yes, it's me."

"What has happened here?"

"My sister and I were paying a visit to our old nanny when we got attacked. All of our knights were slaughtered and my sister nearly died from blood loss!"

The spectators gasped. "Who would do such a thing!?"

"There are those whose hearts bleed with greed and envy. We were robbed and nearly taken hostage. Thankfully, I managed to scare them off." Bonnie decided it would be better if everyone thought it was a simple matter of wealthy people being targeted.

"Is your sister alright? She looked a sight for sore eyes when you were carrying her in!"

"She's fine. She's unconscious, but will make a full recovery!" Bonnie refused to accept otherwise.

"Praise be to the Goddess! May she help your sister heal!"

The knights had cleaned up the area and were now trying to disperse the crowd. The Del Montague carriage pulled away.

Another rickety carriage appeared in front of the hedges and Bonnie went inside to get her sister and nanny.

"We need to leave now, Nana." She intoned as she picked up her sister. Dixie was snoring softly, completely oblivious to the chaos surrounding them.

Does she even know how close she came to death? About as close as I did, I guess. If not for the magic, we'd both be dead right now. And so too would Hildegarde. They wouldn't have left behind any witnesses. They even killed our coachman. That young lad barely passed 16 and they just cut him down! Such monstrous behavior!

But where is his body?

Why had everyone been accounted for except him?
