542. The Lost Gods.

"You're not going?"

Seeing Alex preparing to assign such an important mission to him, Pietro couldn't help but speak up.

For years, Pietro had always been the one following orders in the team, acting like a sharp sword—Alex pointed, and he struck. Even when they had previously split up, it was Constantine who took on the role of commander. This was the first time Pietro was being entrusted with such a significant task. Even with Kara's help, he worried about making mistakes.

Pietro feared nothing, but he dreaded causing trouble for Alex. Establishing relations between two universes was a responsibility that would impact countless lives. Pietro was afraid he might not handle it well.

"I have some other pressing matters on this end," Alex said, shaking his head slightly. "I can't be in Flashpoint Universe One for extended periods, so I can't personally take on this task."

The Watchers hadn't provided any updates yet, and Alex needed to stay in the Wasteland Universe to wait for further developments. If he left for Flashpoint Universe One and missed the Watcher's visit, it could lead to complications. After all, while the Watchers could perceive the multiverse, the DC dimension remained difficult for them to access.

Alex could see Pietro's hesitation and smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry. I believe in you all. Pietro, you've been with the overseers since the beginning. It's time for you to take on some pivotal missions. Besides, you've been to that universe before, haven't you?"

"That's true, but stealing something is one thing. Doing this kind of thing..." Pietro scratched the back of his head.

"Don't stress about it. You've got Kara and Ashley with you," Alex said with a slight smile.

"Exactly! With me around, what are you even afraid of? It's just cross-universe confidential trade—we've got this! I've done similar stuff before; it's super easy!" Ashley patted her chest confidently.

Watching his girlfriend's enthusiastic display, Pietro's mouth twitched.

God only knows where she got her confidence from. As for the "similar stuff" she mentioned, it was probably gang-related smuggling between factions. How could that compare to interdimensional trade?

"I'll help too; don't worry," Kara added. "I may not know much about diplomacy or trade, but I can learn."

Hearing that, Pietro finally let out a slow sigh of relief.

Though he had known Alex longer than Kara, her rapid growth was undeniable. Whether in her interpersonal skills or decision-making, Kara had matured significantly. Combined with her formidable combat abilities, her involvement would greatly reduce the chances of anything going wrong on this mission.

"Alright then. I'll start preparing the materials on my end," Luther said after some thought.

Even though he hadn't met that universe's Batman, if Alex trusted him so much, Luther was willing to extend some trust as well.

As the leader of the Wasteland, Luther would need to get involved in trade between the two universes. However, he couldn't leave at the moment, so written communication would be the only option.

"I'll draft a trade list, a detailed file, and a personal letter to Mr. Wayne. Once everything is ready, you'll deliver them on my behalf."

"Got it. Leave it to us," Kara replied with a nod.

Having delegated all these tasks to Luther and the others, Alex saw no reason to linger.

He trusted that they would handle everything properly. Besides, he had already spoken to old Bruce Wayne before leaving. There was little chance of anything going wrong.

With that thought, Alex opened a portal. This time, he was off to complete something he had always wanted to do but hadn't yet accomplished: to reintroduce magic to the Wasteland Universe.

Alex had planted the seeds of magic here again, with Doom sacrificing himself to rekindle its greatness.

Now, he needed to reconnect the lost dimensions. Once this was achieved, the Wasteland Universe could return to its peak.

To do this, Alex sought out Billy Batson, the current acting protector of the Sanctum.

"Well, well, a rare visitor," Billy greeted him.

Billy Batson sensed the magical energy behind him and smiled slightly as he turned around.

"I heard you've been busy traveling across different universes. How come you have time to visit me this time?"

"I heard you took on the role of Sanctum Protector here. I was curious if you'd be able to adapt, given that the magic here is fundamentally different from the magic you're familiar with," Alex said with a smile as he stepped through the portal.

"It was a bit tricky at first, but this Sanctum is the most well-preserved of the three great Sanctums. It has plenty of books for me to study, and generally, no one dares to cause trouble here. So… it's actually a little boring," Billy replied.

Billy Batson was no longer the child many remembered him as—he was now a grown man. However, his lively and spirited nature remained unchanged. Asking someone like him to stay alone and guard a Sanctum was quite a task.

"I learned a saying here: 'No one visits the Temple without a reason.' So, what's the deal? I don't believe you came just to keep me company," Billy said, setting down the magical tome he had been reading.

Although his injuries hadn't fully healed, the mechanical prosthetics Tony Stark had built to replace his blind eye and lost leg helped him function. Yet the scars on his face made him look unexpectedly fierce.

"I know you've been bored staying here alone, so I came to give you a little surprise," Alex said.

With that, a flash of light appeared in Alex's hand, and an ethereal blue stone materialized.

"Take a look. Does this look familiar?"

Billy glanced at Alex curiously before moving closer to examine the strange metal in his hand.

At first, Billy didn't recognize it. But when he touched the stone and felt the energy emanating from it, he froze.

"This is the Rock of Eternity!?"

Unable to contain his shock, he blurted out, "Where did you get this?"

"I can't tell you that just yet," Alex said seriously. "But I want to know—if we were to rebuild the Rock of Eternity here to reconnect the magical dimensions, how confident are you that you could pull it off?"

Billy immediately understood Alex's intentions.

"You want to rebuild the Rock of Eternity here? It's not impossible. With the magical energy between the two of us, we can manage. But… isn't this piece of metal a bit too small?"

"Don't worry, this is just a fragment. I have larger pieces," Alex reassured him. "I'm just curious—can we replicate the magical energy of your world here by converting it into something this universe can use? I want to reconnect the lost magical dimensions."

"I see. You're trying to build a hub that links all magical dimensions, right? As long as you have enough of the Eternium, it's doable," Billy replied with a slight smile, tapping Alex on the shoulder.

"Luckily, you planted the seeds of magic here using reverse magic. The magical energy in this universe has fundamentally changed, but we'll still need a solid plan to execute it."

Billy then added a word of caution. "But I need to warn you—reconnecting those dimensions could be dangerous. It's easy to expose this reality to the eyes of enemies."

"I get it," Alex nodded. "Some magical dimensions are indeed dangerous—like the Hell Frontier—but I'm aiming for places like Olympus or Asgard."

Alex's plan was simple. The Wasteland Universe was in ruins, and if he could bring back realms that were friendly to Earth, it would be a massive boon. Gods of harvest, navigation, and forging could all contribute to rebuilding the world and getting Earth back on track.

"Realms of the gods, huh?" Billy stroked his chin thoughtfully.

"After the great war in this universe, not only were all the superheroes wiped out, but even the gods faced extinction," Alex explained. "In the past, faith on various planets in the universe would give rise to deities who wield divine power. But after that catastrophe, no new gods have appeared for a long time."

"A godless land, then. But if I'm not mistaken, isn't Black Canary currently wielding Thor's power?" Billy asked curiously.

"That's an exception. Thor's hammer retained a portion of his divine power. So, even after Thor died, someone capable of lifting the hammer could still become the next God of Thunder. But that doesn't apply to other gods," Alex clarified.

In this world, without the intervention of higher-dimensional beings, and with Thor's death on Earth, the gods across the universe were slaughtered by Gorr, the God Butcher, wielding the Necrosword.

After learning that Earth's gods were dead, Gorr turned his attention to the most powerful remaining deity in the universe: Galactus.

Unsurprisingly, Gorr failed.

Though Gorr couldn't defeat Galactus or the Universal Church of Truth under him, he did kill every other god in the universe.

Adding to that, villains like Red Skull exiled magic, leaving the universe devoid of gods, magic, and mutations for years.

"Alright," Billy shrugged. "I'll help you with this. After all, I've got nothing better to do. It'd be nice to explore a few magical dimensions while I'm at it."

"How about we get started now?" Alex asked.

"Of course. Let's do it."
