If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong. I'm not a firm believer in Murphy's Law, but sometimes, reality is just that shitty.

Back then, when Curtis was caught by those five Hawksmoor Estate thugs, I couldn't shake one nagging question: How did they manage to track him even after he used his chameleon earrings to change his appearance?

It didn't make sense. Curtis should have been completely unrecognizable.

I weighed the possibilities carefully, narrowing them down to two plausible explanations.

The first possibility: They had someone with a skill or enchanted item that could see through disguises. This seemed unlikely for several reasons. Disguise detection abilities and items are incredibly rare and expensive. If they were common, I wouldn't have been able to walk so freely around the capital while using my own chameleon earrings. Such rare tools would normally be reserved for those with nobility status or highly skilled specialists.
