Chapter 4 Shut up, it's noisy to death

When she heard her own voice, Ning Ruixi subconsciously furrowed her brows. She had felt something was off about the voice just a moment ago, but now she was even more certain. What was up with this soft, childish tone? Her voice had always been deep and neutral, which lent her more credibility when giving orders. This voice was definitely not her own!

Ignoring the woman who had been frozen in place by her scolding, Ning Ruixi looked seriously at the group of people standing in the hospital room. She scrutinized them over and over again, each time more intently than the last, especially the man who looked rather fierce. She inspected him thoroughly multiple times before finally confirming that she did not recognize any of these people.

"Who are you?"

Swallowing to stabilize her emotions, Ning Ruixi, who had spent years battling in the business world, knew that remaining calm was crucial in the face of problems. Now, realizing that her current situation was quite different from what she had anticipated, and having a bad premonition about it, her first priority was indeed to remain calm.

Only when her emotions finally settled down and she felt she could withstand any storm, did she clear her throat and ask.

This question, like a bolt from the blue, petrified everyone in their tracks. Even the woman who had been faux crying on the bed ceased her act and reached out instinctively to check Ning Ruixi's forehead for a fever upon hearing this.

"Xiaoxi, what's wrong with you? I'm your mother, aren't I? Are you delirious from the fever? Why are you talking nonsense?"

Ning Ruixi instinctively dodged the hand reaching for her and continued to look at the people seriously. She repeated the question she had just asked, "I don't recognize you all? Who are you exactly?"

Gao Han looked puzzled at his wife, who somehow seemed different, the woman who never dared to make eye contact with him now looked at him as if he were a stranger. Moreover, her confident and casual demeanor when speaking was completely different from the person he remembered.

If everyone had been anxious before, now, after hearing the words of the person on the bed, the only way to describe the scene was complete chaos. The two sets of parents present looked at the person on the bed with disbelief, as if they had seen a ghost.

Although Ning Ruixi felt that something was off about the current situation, she still strove to maintain her composure. Seeing that the older individuals present appeared to be quite shocked and unable to calm down anytime soon, she turned to the resolute-faced man, "Excuse me, could you help me with getting a mobile phone? I want to call my friends to pick me up."

This time, even the man who had maintained a stoic expression could not help but show a twist in his demeanor, "What, what are you saying?"

Soon, the doctor was called over by Ning's mother's roar-like crying.

Nobody had seen him clearly before in his surgical attire, but now, only clad in his white coat, his appearance was very visible. No one would have expected that the sarcastically speaking doctor turned out to be so... well, handsome! With slender eyebrows, charming phoenix eyes, plus his fair skin and rosy lips, he looked more like the popular pretty boys on television rather than a doctor who battles with death every day.

"What's the matter? Didn't I say it already? This is a hospital, please keep quiet. If you want to yell, please step outside. If that's not possible, consider transferring the patient to another hospital. You're as noisy as a sparrow."

After performing surgery for over ten hours, Su Weihan felt like his head was about to explode, especially being irritated by the jingles of a voice that was chirping incessantly, testing his patience to the limit. While massaging the sore spot between his brows, he did not hesitate to unleash his sharp tongue at the woman who could be old enough to be his mother.

The junior nurse looked at Doctor Su's expression, instinctively shrinking her neck and surveying the patient's family members with a sympathetic gaze.

"Doctor, what are you saying? Is this the quality of doctors in your hospital?"

Ning's mother, who never tolerated any slight, had managed to endure the doctor's scolding earlier because of concern for her daughter. But now that her daughter was fine, was what he saying even human?

"Competing about who has more quality? Aunty, please go look in the mirror and check out that shrewish face of yours. Stand aside and stop whining. Why did you call me here? Is there something wrong with the patient?"

Su Weihan glanced at Ning's mother disdainfully and walked to the bedside with his stethoscope, looking at the patient who was lying quietly, a hint of surprise in his phoenix eyes.

"I'm fine."

Ning Ruixi shook her head. She felt all right physically, but there was something else she needed help with, "Doctor, hello, may I borrow a phone? I'd like to call my friends to inform them that I've been hospitalized. Also, as a patient, I feel I need some rest, these people are too noisy, could you ask them to leave, please? Thank you!"

Su Weihan had not noticed anything amiss at first, but upon hearing this request, the sense that something was off came to him. He turned his head to look at the several people who were lined up on one side, then at the patient who was eager to use a phone, his brows beginning to furrow, "You all, are you not the patient's family?"

Upon hearing this, everyone in the room felt a mix of laughter and tears.

Ning's father hurried over to explain, "We are the patient's family, she's my daughter. But she doesn't recognize us anymore after waking up, doctor, please help, what's going on with my Xiaoxi?"

As an accomplished surgeon, Su Weihan believed his experience to be quite extensive. Memory loss due to injuries wasn't uncommon, but it usually resulted from head trauma in car accidents or a state of mental distress causing self-hypnosis. How could a simple suicide attempt by wrist-cutting have led to amnesia?

Doubtfully observing the girl on the bed, who didn't seem too old and looked different from the fragile figure in a coma, he noted that though she still seemed under the weather, her eyes were bright and alert like fireflies in the dark, dazzling and luminous. This person, amnesic?

Yet, how could someone with such clear and lucid eyes have attempted suicide?
