A Chilling Fight

With a bellow of pure malice still echoing around them Zain drew his gun at almost the exact same moment his father pulled out his cross bow. With a nod between the two of them, took up positions in the back.

Sophia and Damascus were in the front with their weapons ready. Sophia's glaive was in her hands the way Zain had shown her, it was almost like an extension of her body with her stance the blade was just far enough away that she could use it to deter movements in any direction she wanted, and it shone brilliantly with the light that reflected off the frost. Damascus had his broad sword drawn and resting on his shoulder as if it was a perfectly round baseball bat almost taunting the creature to make the first move.

Zain's mother was in the center of the formation crouched down and holding the orb of hell fire Zain had given her before entering the room. She looked anxious as if she was ready to start this fight, but Zain put the palm of his free hand pointing toward the ground telling her to wait.

In an instant, the creature lurched towards Damascus who quickly maneuvered his broad sword to act like a shield for his forearm to block the devastating blow that would have been a direct hit otherwise. He got thrown back a good ten feet by the blow and lack of traction on the ice.

The creature turned its gaze to Sophia immediately after the first blow to Damascus and went to swing at her. As it was throwing its lanky arm around, Sophia caught it mid swing with the blade of her glaive keeping it in place. The creature struggled trying to free its arm while Sophia held onto the glaive trying to not be disarmed.

After a few moments of struggle, the creature swung its other arm directly at Sophia. Zain quickly dropped his offhand steadying his pistol and his mother seemed to essentially disappear slipping away from the group. Zain let off a shot that rang around the room like normal and struck the creature in the shoulder. His father then shot the first bolt from his crossbow that hit it in the bicep area and that's when Zain noticed and voiced aloud, "It's not bleeding!"

The faces of Damascus and his father seemed to be more of shock and disbelief than the fright that went over Sophia's. Zain's expression grew even more stern as he pulled out one of his silver throwing daggers in the shape of a cross. He took the dagger and threw it at the creature striking it directly in the exposed skull.

The creature staggered back with the dagger still in the skull and let out a bellowing roar. It echoed through the room as Damascus came speeding back by and threw his broad sword into the creatures' side leaving a gash that was just darkness in its side as it let out another "Ruuuuaaaaaahhhh!" that had reverberation that felt like it was shaking through everyone's body.

Zain's mother started dashing from the side of the room with a vial of what appeared to be regular acid. As she started skidding behind the creature, taking aim, she threw it. As it was released across the creatures back, dark gray steam hissed as it was eating through the fur and flesh.

His mother ducked in time for the backwards swing that was made, and Sophia was up in the air still hanging onto the glaive for dear life merely a foot from the creature's face. Zain saw a small glimmer of hope in that moment and rushed up, holstering his pistol and drawing his rapier.

His strikes had to be true at this moment and he knew that this was due or die and reckless as hell. As he made his way up, he sliced into the creature's legs hoping to get a knee. He was rewarded with a slight buckle and a grunt of pain more primordial than most would imagine which brought Sophia a mere six inches from its face.

"Do it now Sophia!" he screamed hoping she would understand.

She did, and she let go of the glaive with one hand and shot a fire bolt at its skull. The flames engulfed it and started to twirl around it like it was dancing.

Zain was still using his previous momentum and quickly went for the other leg again hoping for a knee. Again, the creature buckled, and Sophia lost her grip as he was going underneath her and caught her.

"Quarraaaaaahhh!" The creature who was blinded by flames let out as the heat and pain were setting in.

There was still no blood, no scarring, no blistering when it kept reaching into the flames trying to put it out.

Handing Sophia, the rapier in his hand he pulled out his pistol once again and shouted, "Mom use the vial I gave you, It's Hell fire." As he put Sophia on her feet everyone split around the creature going to its back side.

Zain's mother appeared out of the loose debris of ice from everyone skating around the room and pitched the vial Zain had given her at the creature.

Everyone held their breath as time seemed to have stopped in that instance. The debris of ice seemed to hang in the air and not even try to make it to the ground.

The Flames from its skull were disappearing just as the vial hit its back. Then flames erupted from the vial like a liquid of scorching white fire. It wrapped the creature in an instant and there was silence, except for the dripping of ice melting.

Zain looked up and saw the Stalactites of ice were melting. "Move, don't get hit from above!" Zain yelled trying to keep everyone safe.

As the words finished leaving his mouth the first one fell as the flaming creature started to sway and the flames started to stretch away from it, still flowing like a liquid.

By the time the second one was falling, the flames had nearly reached the door they entered from, flowing over the ground like a coursing river rather than lava.

The third and fourth fell at the same time and the creature had fallen with the flames hitting where they entered and rushing back towards them.

Damascus saw the flames rushing them and stepped up, looked at everyone and spoke. "Never used this on alchemical flames before, here's to hoping it works." He braced himself and broadened his stance, he drew his sword back over his shoulder, and when the flames were about his swords reach away, he swung.

It was a swing for the ages, the wind from it not only pulled the group towards him but it also diverted the flames back onto itself and started extinguishing it.

Zain collapsed to the ground from his knees buckling after witnessing that feat. But it was now over, or so he hoped as he watched the ice from the room evaporate into nothingness. The steam was dissipating, and all that was left was the crispened corpse of the creature that had been the sole owner of this room forever.
