In the oppressive meeting room, Sun Jack took a deep breath, suppressed the rage in his heart, and took his seat at the head once more.
"You want to play a game of deception with me? Fine, I'll play along! What haven't I been through? Do you think I'm scared of this?"
"If you're so capable, don't let me find a single trace! Otherwise, I'll make you pay for the lives of those hundreds of people!!"
Abu, bleeding from the head, clenched his teeth and stood up. AA and Linda Linda hastily tried to stop him but were unable to.
Abu's half-red hair, soaked in blood, transformed his once sly face into a visage filled with fierce and savage animal instincts. He stared at Sun Jack, unafraid. "Sun Jack! I want to know why!"
"Why can't we use the immortality technology? Why can't we live like the Holy Grail People? Your so-called Kangmi Utopia is just your goal! Have you ever asked about our goals?"
"At the beginning, to join the ranks, my brother and I risked our lives, playing with death alongside you! Throughout this journey, how much suffering have we endured with you? What's wrong with us wanting a slice of enjoyment?"
"If it weren't for the hope of a better life, why the hell would we have risked our lives with you back then?"
"I'm not afraid to tell you! I didn't do this! But now I can't stand the way you conduct yourself! I'm fucking out!"
The moment these words were uttered, everyone in the room was shocked; no one expected Abu to say such a thing.
Furious, Abu poked fiercely at his own chest twice. "Sun Jack! You've never really respected the two of us brothers. Do you think all of this was built by you alone?"
"Who was it that joined you when your operation was worth shit? Who the fuck came up with the strategies for you and fought at the front lines?"
"Are you fucking blind? Goddammit, are you a son of a bitch? Turning on us just like that?! What do we even mean to you?"
After speaking his mind, and alongside the resignation of various positions, Abu voluntarily disassociated himself from the Utopia Federation. "Steelheart! Let's go! We're not serving this son of a bitch anymore!!"
When everyone saw Abu quickly listing his and his brother's shares on the network ready to sell, they realized he was serious.
Linda Linda quickly stood up and attempted to intervene, but Sun Jack stopped her.
"Let her go! Abu! You and everyone else from Eighteenth Street can get the fuck out!!"
"Psh, you don't have to tell me; I was going to do that anyway!" Abu said, leading the resentful Steelheart towards the door.
At the doorway, Abu turned sharply around and glared at Sun Jack viciously, "You won't let us do this, you won't let us do that! How are you any different from the original Holy Grail People? People aren't robots; everyone has their own desires! You big idiot!!"
"Get out! Just get the fuck out!" Sun Jack hurled the gun in his hand toward him.
As Abu and Steelheart left, the atmosphere in the meeting room grew even more oppressive. Sun Jack looked at the people remaining, "Anyone else feeling uncomfortable, wanting to leave with her?"
"Fine, I agree to let you all go. As long as you leave the Utopia Federation, whether you want to seek other capitalists or establish your own power, you can do so! Anyone who wants to leave, get out! All of you, get out!!"
However, in the face of Jack's roaring, despite whatever Sun Jack said, all the remaining people kept silent.
Time ticked away, second by second, and when it reached deep into the night, only Sun Jack was left alone in the empty and solemn meeting room. The mastermind behind today's events still had not been found.
Sun Jack suddenly felt so tired, incredibly exhausted, even more so than when he had overthrown the Holy Grail and rebelled against the FFP.
The low sound of footsteps emerged, and the Priest came to Sun Jack's side, his voice unusually gentle.
"In the past, I always worried you would be corrupted and become the next Lan Meng. It seems I was wrong. Indeed, you managed to resist, but what's the use if you alone are uncorrupted?"
"You always thought I was too radical, but some things require radical action. If we had transformed and armed the people's minds from the beginning, then even a victory would just be the start of a new cycle."
Sun Jack didn't reply; he sat there like a statue.
"No matter what happens in the future, no matter how you plan to change, I and all the followers of Liberation Theology will always support you, comrade." Not long after the Priest left, Linda Linda came over.
She opened her arms and embraced Sun Jack in her ample bosom, "Abu hasn't left; I and the others tried our best to hold her and her brother back."
Then, with a tinge of complaint, she said, "Cajole her a bit, seriously. You hurt her with what you said earlier. She's really sad. If she didn't genuinely care about you, she wouldn't have said those things. Just cajole her. If you make it up to her, maybe she won't leave."
Sun Jack slowly turned his head, looking at Linda Linda with disbelief. "Cajole her? What do you think this is? A romance? You think... never mind, you simply don't understand what's really going on here."
Exhausted in both body and spirit, Sun Jack stepped outside the building, feeling the acid rain tirelessly beating upon his face. The cold rainwater brought him some slight relief.
He knew his heart was in turmoil, not suited to making significant decisions. Sun Jack decided to wait until his heart had completely settled down before seriously contemplating his next move.
Just as he reached into his pocket to take out a cigarette to relight, by the light of his match, he seemed to see a vague silhouette, a Black Shadow, in the far-off drizzle.
Sun Jack frowned and quickly advanced toward that shadow. As he drew closer, the figure became larger and clearer.
It was a colossal statue of Sun Jack, dozens of meters high; the statue gazed forward with perpetual confidence and determination.
"Damn it! Didn't I say no statues were allowed!?" Looking at that giant figure, Sun Jack's heart ignited with anger, and he was all set to confront it.
But just then, he saw a large group of Metropolitan Citizens beside the statue, looking up at the gigantic sculpture with eyes filled with respect and adoration.
As Sun Jack approached the sculpture, all the Metropolitan Citizens, in unison, knelt deeply before it.
That collective kneel felt as though they were kneeling directly upon Sun Jack's heart; his face instantly turned pale and he stumbled a few steps. If it weren't for Tapai's support, Sun Jack would have almost fallen.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Tapai asked.
Sun Jack shook his head. He stretched out a trembling finger and tried to light a cigarette from inside his coat, but he couldn't get it to light after several tries.
More citizens gathered around, joining in the worshipful kneeling before the image of Sun Jack in front of them.
As Tapai brought a light to Sun Jack, helping to ignite his cigarette, Sun Jack leaned against him and slowly slid to the ground.
Sun Jack clenched his jaw and lay on the wet ground, pounding his fists into the earth, while tears mixed with the cold acid rain and silently slid down.
