Eba never expected that a simple red apple would lead to such a cataclysmic fate. Yet, as soon as she sank her teeth into the fruit's crisp flesh, everything went dark. An all-encompassing void swallowed her whole, plunging the young woman into a world of absolute blackness.
Eba's heart raced as she flailed her limbs, desperately trying to find any purchase in the suffocating darkness. But it was no use - she was adrift in a sea of nothingness, powerless to affect her surroundings. Panic started to set in as she realized the true horror of her predicament.
"What is this place?! How do I escape?!" Eba cried out, her voice echoing endlessly into the void. But there was no answer, only the oppressive silence that pressed in all around her.
Gradually, Eba came to a grim realization - she was trapped, suspended in this black abyss like an infant in the womb. The only difference was that unlike a newborn baby, Eba had no guarantee of ever seeing the light of day again. Her destiny lay shrouded in mystery, an unknown fate that loomed before her.
With no way to orient herself, Eba could do nothing but float aimlessly, waiting with bated breath to see if she would ever be reborn into the world above. Was she even truly alive in this endless void? The uncertainty weighed heavily on her mind as she contemplated her dire circumstances.
Yet, even in the face of such overwhelming darkness, a glimmer of hope flickered within Eba's heart. After all, she was no helpless baby - she was a strong-willed young woman, and she refused to give in to despair. Somehow, someway, she would find a path back to the life she once knew. Her destiny was hers to forge, even in the depths of this cursed abyss.
Eba sat there, wallowing in her sorrow and regret, when suddenly a brilliant light pierced the darkness. Her surroundings began to blur and distort, as if the very world was rushing past her in a dizzying blur.
"I feel like I'm on some kind of wild rollercoaster!" she cried out amidst her tears, Nana name still on her trembling lips.
"I want to get off this ride!" she pleaded in a tiny, desperate voice, reaching out for salvation.
"Nana..."
And then, just as suddenly, everything went still. Eba found herself plummeting down into an abyss of complete and utter darkness, dropping from a height of three feet.
"Aaaaah...owww, that really hurt!" she yelped as she hit the ground below.
Eba's body crumpled down as she hit the ground, her head striking first before the rest of her followed. The impact was so jarring, she could feel her consciousness slipping away.
"Ahhh crap!" she uttered, her words trailing off as her eyes slowly drifted shut.
Eba fell into a deep, dreamless sleep, but the gentle caress of the wind and the prickling sensation of grass against her skin began to rouse her. Bit by bit, her eyes flickered open, trails of tears still glistening on her cheeks.
"Ah...Ah! What is this? Where am I?" she exclaimed, confused and amazed by her strange new surroundings. The world she now found herself in was unlike anything she had ever experienced before.
Eba found herself awakening in a vast, unfamiliar landscape - a sprawling grassland unlike anything she had ever seen before. The air was filled with the earthy scents of the countryside, a far cry from the bustling city she was accustomed to. Blinking in bewilderment, she slowly rose to her feet, her body aching as if she had just run a grueling 100-kilometer race.
"Um... Excuse me, ma'am?" Eba called out tentatively, approaching a nearby woman. "Could I ask you something?" looking at woman unfamiliar clothing.
The woman paused, also eyeing Eba's strange attire with evident curiosity. "What is it?" she replied.
"Um, what is this place? And... what year is it... i guess?" Eba asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
"What, have you forgotten?" the woman responded with a joyful lilt. "Why, this is the year 50 AD. March 18, 50 AD to be exact!"
Eba's eyes widened in stunned disbelief. The year 50 AD? How could that be? She had been certain she was in the year 2024, but now...
"What? No, no, this can't be real!" Eba exclaimed, her mind racing in bewilderment. "What is this? I can't be dreaming after what just happened... but how long have I been in that pitch-black void?"
She paused, her heart pounding as a horrifying realization dawned on her. "Wait, AD? Am I... Am I back in the past? Or is this some kind of parallel world?"
Eba felt her knees start to buckle, the weight of it all threatening to overwhelm her, when the woman spoke up once more.
"How could you have forgotten the date?" the woman asked, her tone brimming with excitement. "Today is the day the higher-ups will announce the results of the expedition! It's a big event that happens twice a year, and all the people come to celebrate."
The woman's expression grew even more joyful as she continued. "We're even harvesting today to cook for the occasion. It's the Expedition Festival - a time for us to give thanks and respect to our heroic navigators, you know?"
Eba stared at the woman, her mouth agape. "An expedition festival? Heroic...Navigators? What on earth was happening here?" She had to get a grip on the situation, but the more the woman spoke, the more lost and confused Eba became.
She plastered on a sheepish smile and said to the woman, "Oh, hehe, yeah... I must still be a bit sleepy. Anyway, thank you, ma'am."
Eba knew that dwelling on her confusion would get her nowhere. She needed to compose herself and take stock of the situation. As she looked around, she realized the importance of her current predicament - it was the year 50 AD.
"Alright, first things first," Eba said to herself. "If this is ancient times, then I'll need to change out of these modern clothes. A cloak, like the lady earlier was wearing, seems to be the fashionable choice around here."
She gazed around the pastoral landscape, taking in the sights and sounds of this unfamiliar world. Her head was still spinning, but she knew she had to adapt if she was going to navigate this strange new reality. With a deep breath, Eba steeled her nerves and began looking for a suitable place to procure some more period-appropriate attire.
Eba gaze fell upon an empty sack made of canvas, likely used to hold rice or other provisions. Without hesitation, she tore off a section of the fabric and quickly fashioned it into a makeshift skirt. Leaving her white t-shirt as the only modern article of clothing she could reasonably wear, she began blending in with the pastoral surroundings.
As Eba surveyed the landscape, she saw nothing resembling the technology she was accustomed to - no computers, no cell phones, no signs of an advanced civilization. It was as if she had been transported to an untouched, provincial world, far removed from the bustling cities she knew.
But just as she was coming to terms with this realization, something caught her eye. In the distance, she spotted a man performing what appeared to be... magic. With a mere gesture of his hands, he conjured a flame out of thin air.
"What?!" Eba exclaimed, her eyes widening in shock. "What is that?! Is this even real?"
The sight of the man's supernatural abilities left Eba utterly bewildered. She had been thrust into a world that defied all logic and reason, and she had no idea what to make of it. As she stood there, her heart racing, she couldn't help but wonder just what other marvels and mysteries this strange new realm might hold. Eba was certain she hadn't returned to the past, but she was convinced she had arrived in a parallel world.
As Eba took in the stunning sight of the man conjuring fire with his bare hands, a realization dawned on her. This world was not like the one she had known - it operated on a fundamentally different set of rules, one that included the use of supernatural powers known as "Saint Blessings."
Eba's mind raced with this unexpected information. At first, she felt a surge of confusion wash over her, unsure of how to process these incredible revelations. But then, something remarkable happened - a spark ignited within her, a restless energy that she had long suppressed.
This was not a challenge she was facing, but an opportunity. A new world, full of wonders and mysteries, had opened up before her. Eba could feel her heart pounding with excitement, her inner "challenge junkie" persona taking over.
"The lady earlier mentioned 'higher-ups,'" Eba mused to herself. "I assume that's the equivalent of a government in this place. Which means there must be a city or settlement nearby, where I can hopefully find some answers."
With a newfound sense of purpose and curiosity, Eba began to make her way. The confusion and disorientation she had felt earlier had transformed into an eager anticipation for the adventures that lay ahead. This was no longer a world to be feared, but one to be explored and mastered.
"That's it, I'm going to head to the city and see for myself," Eba declared with determination. "I can't just stay here like a newborn child lost in the forest. They say knowledge is power, and that's the only weapon I can have right now."
With a renewed sense of purpose, Eba set out, keeping an eye out for anyone who might be able to provide her with directions or assistance. Soon, she spotted an Old Man and decided to approach him.
"Excuse me, sir," Eba called out politely. "How can I make my way to the city?"
The Old Man looked at her kindly. "The city? It's still quite far from here i'm guessing maybe 3 to 5 hours, but if you don't mind waiting, we were just about to load our harvest onto our carriage. You're welcome to hop in."
Eba's face lit up with relief and gratitude. "Oh, thank you! That would be incredibly helpful. Please, let me lend a hand with the carriage."
"Why, thank you, my dear," the Old Man responded with a warm smile.
Eba's determination had paid off, and she was now one step closer to her goal of gaining knowledge and understanding this new, extraordinary world she had found herself in. With the Old Man's assistance, she would be able to reach the city and hopefully uncover the answers she sought.
