Evidol was one of the most important jobs in the Netherworld. Due to demons having a period where their violent tendency and sadism are heightened, Evidols helped to bring together many demons in one place, creating a lively atmosphere by hosting performances.
Transforming malice into excitement, Evidol was highly respected and was handsomely paid so I was not that opposed to the idea of being an Idol. It even had a weird charm to it.
But...
What have I gotten myself into?
...
I was currently sitting among the auditionees, alone in one of the corner seats while other girls were ignoring me for some reason.
The girls around me were quite cute and beautiful, as far as I was concerned, they looked pretty human, well, ignoring their horns and tails. Yes, that's a thing here. All of them were wearing fashionable and beautiful clothes you would see in fashion magazines...
And then there was me, in a hoodie.
Well, I might have just found the reason why I was the odd one out.
"Where does she think she is, wearing a hoodie here?"
"Truly, some demons don't know their place."
I could hear two of the girls speaking in loud voices while occasionally glancing at me.
How rude...
I rolled my eyes at the comments. But before I could speak up, a snickering voice replied to them.
"Wow, these bitches really think that they are hotshots by wearing frilly dresses. Truly acting like the side characters you truly are." The one who spoke was a blonde-haired girl, wearing revealing clothes. I mean, she was only wearing a black bra and hot pants.
She looked like one of the gyaru depicted in anime. And well, considering the place I am in, it might as well be true.
The two girls who were whispering before shut up, seemingly not expecting to be called out. Seeing the eyes of other girls converging on them, they seemed to feel the pressure, so they also kept quiet after glaring at the blonde-haired girl and me.
"Thanks," I said to the blonde-haired girl but just received a stare before being ignored. Really feeling at home here frfr.
Anyway, as the atmosphere of the room became quiet, the door suddenly opened, and a woman walked inside the room, attracting the attention of everyone.
It was a black-haired older woman with glasses. She was quite tall and had two goat-like horns sticking out of her head.
I had to pay extra attention not to stare at them. Or anything for that matter, because I was surrounded by demons from literally hell.
I kept my head down, avoiding the furtive gazes. Why am I even here? Just to suffer? If so, it's working
"Hello. My name is Meri. I'm one of the managers of Demimuse agency and also the one who will be overseeing this audition."
The woman looked at us for a couple of seconds and then once again continued.
"Now please follow me so we can begin." The woman walked away as I looked at the girls following her. Including me, there were twelve other demons.
I stood up last and followed the remaining girls.
The room we went to was underground. It was an auditorium with about fifty red seats and a stage. The floor was white with black ceilings and walls.
Beside the stage, there was a table with two people already seated. One was an older woman with unicorn-like horns, and the other was a man with plain features.
Cough
Ms. Meri coughed slightly, and we turned our attention to her.
"The audition will now begin. All of you will sing a song of your choice, and we will rate you accordingly."
Hmm... a song, huh? From my memory, the previous Nyx was as clueless as they come, having no sort of preparation at all.
Though irked, I was not that fazed. After all, I had a trump card.
"Now, please come forward after we have called your name. First, Rena Ris. Please go to the stage." A red-haired girl went to the stage, and she began to sing an unfamiliar song.
She was quite good. Her song was from a cute genre, which most of the idols seemed to sing.
Soon one by one, more and more girls were called on stage. Some were better than others, but the judges didn't reveal anything in their expressions, only clapping and giving small compliments and bits of advice.
...
"Gyari, please come forward." Wait...
The blonde-haired girl from before moved to the stage. As she took the mic and started to sing.
"Gyarr..." It was a rock song, but her performance was a cut above the rest. She was freestyling it, but her unique charisma drew people in. She really seemed like a born star.
She was one of the characters shown in the manga, and seeing her in front of me was quite a wake-up call. It seemed I had truly transmigrated into this Netherworld. It truly had not settled in until now.
Sigh
I sighed and clapped as Gyari's performance also came to an end. That was good, I pity the one who had to go right after her...
"Next, Nyx Grace. Please come to the stage."
Of course, it's my turn. Of course, it was. Instead of Nyx, I should have been called Jinx by the way I am jinxing everything. Pain...
I stood up from my seat, passed the smug Gyari, and took the microphone.
I noticed some of the girls giving me looks of disapproval, but I didn't mind.
They didn't know that I worked the hardest out of spite!
Such thoughts swirled around my mind, as I shook my head.
It's do-or-die time.
I took a deep breath and activated my trump card.

.
So I sang.
