Chapter Seven - Stones Left Unturned

[Danger detected!]

[Warning, host]

{This height will smash your body in your current state. This will kill you.}

"WHAT?"

This time it was worse. My heart sank, deep, deeper to the deepest it could. I hated the last time. The feeling of being in some situation unable to do anything but knowing that death was very likely.

"I mean, you just confirmed my death!"

I just wanted to curse.

[Distance to floor: 15 meters]

[14 m]

[13 m]

In my scared state, I dimmed my vision and felt the vibration. The air was roughly brushing past me, and the spinning slowed down.

[12 m]

[11 m]

"Can you help me?!"

[10 m]

"Starlet! Please! I am begging! Don't let me die again!"

[9 m]

Somehow, time seemed to slow down. It made everything worse. This moment was just being dragged on. Focusing on the vibration, I tried to think of things I could do.

[8 m]

Somehow, the smell of the old woman came to mind. It was really calming. "How nice."

[7 m]

And with the smell, my sense of vibration sharpened. I noticed the rough floor. I listened to the rustling of leaves, the swishing of grass, and…

"!"

There was a humming. No, a buzzing. "What in the world."

[6 m]

As fast as the ground closed in, the humming became closer. It was flying. And after I focused all my senses on it, I noticed what it was.

"A fly!"

[5 m]

"So, I will die at the hands of this fly? Not by smashing the ground?"

[4 m]

"Great…"

In this moment, my shell noticed some resistance. The spinning stopped, and at one point, the point of collision, a pain spread.

I thought the descent had stopped, but in the next moment, the solid ground turned into something soft. It felt like liquid.

I thought I was saved. That the fly somehow caught me while falling. But these illusional dreams were all shattered when, with some delay, the number lowered by one meter.

[3 m]

The fly had clashed with me; in this moment, my system flashed several notifications.

[Generic Bone Fly] – [Level 1]

{Kits body had a hard shell that formed to protect the squishy insides. To kill one must break the skin and penetrate.}

[2 m]

I couldn't take it anymore. Somehow the spinning hadn't stopped. And I was still falling. Closer to death than ever.

[1 m]

Everything went black. Somehow, I was happy that the fate of being avid when my body was being smashed was being avoided by blacking out.

"So, this is it."

Definitely. I would have cried if I could. This was more than useless. Probably the fated death after any reincarnation.

"Well, some stones should best be left unturned. I guess my second life was something like that."
