2. Worst Day of his life

"NO....." Dante cried while looking at his computer.

The whole file was empty. He stared at it for a while, hoping it was just a lag or error, but after a few minutes, his hopes were dashed when it showed:

'Empty file... Create your first file.'

"What the... This! Why did this happen?"

Dante slowly stood up and stretched his arm, ready to punch the computer, but something held him back.

"My whole work, gone just like that... I didn't even get to try it."

Dante lowered his arm before going out onto the balcony adjacent to his bed.

"Life sucks..." He wanted to curse, but he refrained from using any curse words.

With a heavy heart, he closed his eyes and looked at the view in front of him: tall skyscrapers, huge buildings, and a busy crowd in the street.

Unsure of what to do, he walked back to his computer with a calm heart.

"Let's do this again..."

"Hooo... Come on, man, you can do this!" he said, looking at his reflection in the computer screen.

A few minutes later, Dante still hadn't moved. He didn't know where to start.

Dante got up and walked out of the room.

For the first time in many weeks, he walked outside his house. Like a vampire afraid of the light, he walked slowly to calm his turbulent mind.

Without any destination in mind, he wandered aimlessly, thinking about what he would do next after the whole joke of an event. A whirlwind of emotions hit him.

He stopped at a small shade of a tree on an unknown walkway and then sobbed.

He felt like the world was just unfair. It always took his work as a joke. He worked very hard even though he knew the time he might lose because of it. He thought that just a tiny fraction of his time might be worth it, but now it became worthless.

He knew that he wasn't the only one suffering like this, but he still thought it was unfair. Then he wiped his tears and breathed slowly.

With a deep breath, Dante steeled his heart.

"There's no use crying over spilled milk. Let's just make another one before picking up the cookies."

But before he could straighten his shoulders, the buzz of a truck scared the sh*t out of him.

"Peeep.... !!!!"

The sound of a speeding truck passed by an inch, and he almost peed his pants.

Dante hurriedly ran away from the sound.

"What the... *****, you better run, you ******!" he cursed as loud as possible to let his frustration out.

But before he could complain more, another one passed by him again, only a centimeter away.

"Beeep....."

This time his feet finally gave in from fright, and he stumbled before falling down. A man then opened the window of his car before shouting at Dante.

"Stop blocking the parking lot, you twerp! I am almost late for work."

Dante, with an absent mind because of the shock, looked at his surroundings. He was in the parking space of a famous electric car repair shop, a building with many floors and a futuristic design.

Without delay, he stood up before apologizing.

"You better watch your back, you dumbass," the guy spat back before parking his car.

After calming his heart, Dante walked back to his house, but because he walked out of the house absentmindedly, he didn't know how to trace his way back.

He reached into his pocket, searching for his wallet before checking his card.

"I'm out of luck. I forgot my card and phone. I'm really a dumbass," he chuckled sadly.

Without any choice, Dante looked around, trying to find someone to ask for directions.

"Ahmm... Excuse me. Can you tell me where I can find Elm Street?" Dante asked hesitantly, unsure of what to say.

The guy answered, pointing him in the right direction. After a few minutes of asking, Dante said goodbye and thank you before jogging toward his house.

"Huff... Huff... How did I manage to walk that far?" Dante said while bending his knee from fatigue.

He opened the door of his house and then looked for food. Dante opened the fridge hurriedly.

He picked up a can of tuna, opened it, and lit the electric stove. He then dumped the whole can's contents like a maniac as his stomach growled for food.

His body was screaming for sustenance. He didn't know what was going on as he had only jogged for a kilometer, but his stomach was demanding too much.

After a whole session of hunger management, his body finally stopped demanding food, though he still wasn't full.

He still felt hungry, but the cramps were gone.

"What is happening to me? I might have a disease I don't know about," Dante said with a complicated face.

Dante tried to calm his beating heart with a deep breath.

"How ironic can it be? Yesterday I was celebrating, and now..."

Dante looked around, seeing seven empty cans of tuna piled on the table. He sighed.

"Hoo... bad day it is."

Picking up the tuna cans, he dumped them in the trash before washing the dishes.

He looked at his reflection in the water, then at his body.

A scratch on his nose, dirt on his pants, and unkempt hair because of the emotional whirlwind.

"Hahaha."

He laughed, unable to believe what had happened to him that whole day.

....

In his room, he looked at his computer with an empty look.

With a complicated expression, he opened his computer and the application where he used to code before starting again.

He was lucky enough that his notes in his notebook were still around, and with the help of his memory, he managed to restore the file.

Two days later, Dante put down his hands before adjusting his glasses.

He stretched his arm, then a satisfying cracking sound came.

*Click click click*

His body creaked from exhaustion, but before he tried to finish his work, he copied all the code, putting it in his notepad on his computer to avoid another loss.

"If this thing malfunctions again, I might think there's a hacker around my computer."

Then he went back to the application before pressing done.

*Beep*

Dante smiled when he heard the sound. He then proceeded to shut down his computer.

*Beep*

*Beep*

*Beep*

Dante looked at his computer, finding the sound odd.

"Huh...? Where does that sound come from?"

After 30 seconds of waiting, it finally stopped.

"Weird, I almost thought there was a bomb around," he joked while looking around laughing.

But before he could walk out of the room, a sudden painful prick assaulted his head.

"Arghh.."

Dante screamed, then with a thud, he fell down.

Memories of something showed him.

It was a comet traveling in the cosmos, a beautiful shade of blue hue covering its body with cracks around it. It orbited the whole universe as shown to him, passing many galaxies and destroying countless empty planets until it became as small as a pebble.

But even though it became so small, its energy seemed to fold the space around it. It flew from system to system of stars, then finally, after billions of years traveling through the cosmos, it slowed down and reached a star system, the solar system.

Home of planet Earth, its momentum slowed rapidly before it descended to Earth. Then Dante saw his house before this little pebble went straight to the open window, then to his computer.

Then it showed how Dante became frustrated, scratching his head while looking at the hole in his computer.

It showed him its perspective of Dante working, which Dante found weird as it felt like stalking himself while working.

Then it showed him the colorful light that went inside his body, reconstructing his whole being.

It modified his DNA to hold and store billions of units of energy. It also modified his entire soul.

After the whole event, his body on the ground jolted up. He rubbed his head and stood up.

"Argh... Pesky little comet, it even tried to store billions of units of energy in my body."

"Does it want me to explode?"

Dante rubbed his head again, massaging his temples, before realizing.

"***k, does that mean if I die, the whole universe will perish?"

Dante almost died from fear, or he didn't want to.

Imagine a small cell in his body holding energy thousand times stronger than the current nuclear weapon exploding, not just Earth would perish, countless universes might be affected.

He was like a walking time bomb. If his lifespan ended, which he didn't know if he would die from old age because of the modification done to his body, he might explode into nothingness.

But before he could continue his out-of-place thinking, a familiar yet terrifying sound echoed through the house again.

*Beep*

*Beep*

*Beep*

'Initializing confirmed...'

'Host body modification confirmed.....'

'Abilities confirmed...'

'Building matrix.....'

'System creation confirmed...'

'Shutting the host body....'

'Confirmed...'

Then Dante's body plummet to the ground like a rag doll.
