Gabrielle didn't let on who he really was. If it were someone else, they might have started doubting Gibson by now.
But these two naive women totally bought into Gibson's lies without any guard up. How could they ever win in the cutthroat business world with that kind of attitude?
Sonia was still lounging on the couch, working her contacts for information, but from the look on her face, it seemed like she wasn't getting anywhere. Gibson was about to head back to his room too, but suddenly stopped at the door.
"Alright, I'm coming!" Sonia hung up the phone and headed for the door.
Outside the villa, a tall and handsome man stood with roses and a gift in his hands. Gibson stepped back into the living room to watch the scene unfold, his gaze sharpening.
"Who's that guy?" he whispered, leaning slightly against the liquor cabinet.
"Huh?" Gabrielle stopped showing off and looked towards the door, "You mean Archie? That's one of Sonia's admirers!"
"An admirer?"
"Yeah! You better step up your game, or someone else might sweep her off her feet."
"It's no big deal to me. But this Archie, do you know him?"
"Not really, seems like he was a client of hers before. Keeps sending gifts, showing he cares, but Sonia hasn't really responded much. But he's a nice guy, has a gentlemanly way of pursuing girls, even studied abroad, I hear."
Gibson smirked, "Lived overseas for over a decade, huh?"
Gabrielle didn't buy it, just rolled her eyes.
Outside the villa.
"Archie, stop bringing me flowers. It's not good for others to see, I already told you, let's just be colleagues, okay?" Sonia said, awkwardly smiling as she took the flowers.
The man wasn't upset, seemingly used to the rejection.
"Baby, think it over! I know your company is facing troubles, how about this, I invest three hundred million, if we make a profit, I'll share some with you, if not, no worries."
"Just call me Sonia!" she corrected him, "You don't need to worry about my company, and don't come here anymore."
"Why?"
"Why? I..." Sonia struggled to find a new excuse, this time it seemed even harder.
She turned her head, saw Gibson lighting a cigarette watching them, and quickly blurted out, "I have a husband now!"
"How could that be? You don't need to make up so many lies just to reject me, this time it's even more outrageous. You don't even have a male dog around, where would a husband come from?" the man scoffed.
"Just wait!" Sonia walked back inside, pulled Gibson out towards the door. Dragging a man out of the house like that hardly seemed believable.
"You...!"
"No way! That can't be real!"
"Are you just trying to upset me by having someone pretend to be your husband?"
...
Gibson had been keeping an eye on Sonia for a while and knew that even her pets were female; she rarely had any dealings with men.
He moved closer to Sonia and whispered, "You're damaging my reputation here, you know. You'll have to pay extra for this!"
"Knock off a billion!" Sonia replied in a low voice.
"Deal!" Gibson said, then wrapped an arm around her waist and gave it a squeeze.
He figured if he was going to be used as a shield, he might as well get something out of it.
Just then, the man came over, clearly agitated, "Kid, where are you from? Which company do you work for?"
"I'm the current security officer at Wind Group!" Gibson answered.
"What!!" The man exclaimed in surprise.
Gabrielle, attracted by the noise outside, saw Gibson hugging Sonia, and the two of them suddenly started kissing.
"Holy crap—am I drunk?!" Gabrielle exclaimed in shock.
Back at the villa entrance, Sonia pushed Gibson away and coldly told the man, "Archie, I'm married now. If you keep this up, we might not even be able to work together!"
Archie scoffed in response, "With your company in its current state, my willingness to help you is already a favor. Don't be ungrateful!"
"Get lost—!" Sonia angrily threw the gifts and flowers on the ground, "If you want to terminate the contract, feel free to do so anytime. You don't need to use this to threaten me!"
As Archie left, he picked up the flowers and gifts and made a phone call, "Check out this guy with Sonia, he might be here for that thing too!"
Back inside, Gibson said sarcastically, "You kissed me, that's at least another ten billion!"
Sonia rolled her eyes at him, "Are you crazy? That was my first kiss. I haven't even asked you for compensation yet!"
"Do you even know who I really am..."
"Whatever your identity is! Right now, you're just a security guard at Wind Group!"
After Sonia stormed into the house, Gibson's phone rang—it was a call from the Middle East. The person on the other end said, "Mr. Barton, the royal family of Phelos wants you to help escort the young prince to Africa. As compensation, we're offering three large oil fields."
Gibson responded angrily, "Crap! This kind of minor task, my dog could handle. Don't bother me! Get lost!" He hung up the phone.
Those three oil fields were worth at least three billion dollars a year in production, and the escort mission would only take three days. He could easily earn billions of dollars.
