Valeria, the country of mages, was in the former man's mind an ideal place from where he could start spreading his power. And a village called Zavidnoe would be the point from which he would make his trek. Starting in Kasa with three vampires loyal to him, he had crossed two countries in a short time and reached here. And along the way, lonely travelers would get an offer they couldn't refuse. Become a vampire or become food. A simple choice.
Two weeks into the journey, the squad grew to fifty vampires. And now they had come here, to a village not far from the city, and the vampires loyal to him had received orders. By morning, half the village was to be turned into vampires and the other half eaten. Those who disobeyed the order, Vidov killed without hesitation. Why pity those who could easily be replaced?
A man in his underwear sprang from the house and darted toward the barn. A blurry shadow quickly caught up with him and turned into a young man in the same clothes, ripped out his throat and greedily clung to him. The man grimaced. These new vampire converts were too impatient. But what could one expect from the savages of this world?
No civilization or semblance of civilization. Backward freaks, incapable of even becoming normal vampires like him. Two hours later, it was over. The vampire squad had been replenished with two hundred new fighters.
Having built up the newcomers, Vidov went in front of them and explained that from now on they were part of his army of vampires and their goal was to take power in this kingdom. And to do this, they must obey him and follow his commands. Those who do not wish to do so will be drained. Dumbfounded by the changes that had taken place and the way they had just killed their family and friends, the ghouls were silent and just listened to this self-confident man, who continued to talk about their purpose, greatness and exclusivity.
Having finished speaking, Vidov called his assistant over.
- Place them in their homes for the day. Find all the weapons you can in the village and don't forget the armor. Next night we go to the neighboring village, and directly from there to the baron's castle. And then take over the city!
- It will be done, sir! - The vampire didn't notice the angry look that the bowed boy threw at him, leaving for the cabin he liked and taking the vampire girl with him.
No travelers passed through the village of Zavidnoe during the day, and the ranks of the army were swelled with forty more newly converted vampires. The neighboring village fell at their feet before they could wake up, as did the baronial castle next to it. Plus another three hundred fighters, thanks to the castle's arsenal, perfectly armed. No one would be able to resist such an army.
This kingdom relies on magic, not swords. But the vampire is immune to magic. The local rulers will have nothing to counter the new power once they realize what they're dealing with. And mages have such delicious blood... Vidov involuntarily licked his lips. He was right when he chose Valeria as a target, all calculations were confirmed. All that remained was to bring the matter to a victorious end and become the full ruler of his own country.
- Fez! We'll stay a day in the castle. Prepare a room for me, - and then hugging the girl standing next to him corrected himself, - Prepare a room for us. As soon as the demur is down, we go to the...
A dagger thrust between his shoulder blades prevented him from finishing. Turning, he saw another vampire behind him, one of the first three he'd started his journey to the crown with.
- Which...
But he wasn't allowed to finish that speech either. The sword blew off Vidov's head. The death blow was struck by the very assistant and deputy to whom the vampire had given the order. The girl standing next to him spat on the settling body, then crouched down and drank the blood.
