CHAPTER 1 & 2 : WATANABE HISAO, DAY BECOMES WORSE

Shinjuku, Tokyo - In summer, Watanabe Hisao leads a routine life, where every day is the same for him. He wakes up at 5 a.m. and goes for a jog, then prepares breakfast for himself. After that, he heads to work as a lawyer at 7 a.m. and reaches his workplace at 8 a.m. Hisao carries out his legal duties in a typical manner, without any variation. He went out to lunch with his colleagues, continued working, and returned home at 8 p.m. There, he made dinner, took a shower, and slept like usual.

One day, his ordinary life took a turn for the worse. After finishing his work that day, instead of going home as usual, he attended his high school reunion with his friends. The reunion was going well, with everyone sharing and exchanging life stories in a normal manner. Some of them had started families, while others had successful careers. They were all happy and enjoying themselves, drinking and having a good time together. The reunion ended close to midnight and Hisao returned home at 2 a.m. He was too tired and drunk to make it to his bedroom, so he slept on the couch instead.

The next morning, Hisao woke up with a hangover. He felt very dizzy. He checked his phone and saw the time was already 7 a.m.

"AAAGGGGRRRHHHH!! I'M LATE" Hisao is shocked when he realizes he is already late for work. He got up from the couch and straightway went to the bathroom quickly. He washed his face and brushed his teeth in a hurry. He didn't take a shower or even change his clothes, without thinking too much he grabbed his bag and rushed out to chase the bus. However, when he arrived at the bus stop the bus already left.

"Wait! Wait! Wait! Oh, please wait for me." He shouted out loud and chased the bus as fast as he could but the bus had already left him behind. He was in a hurry to reach the train station to arrive at the workplace on time. So, he had no other choice except to rush to the train station. Waiting for another bus for him, would take another 30 minutes and at that time he was already late for work. However, as he tried to run as fast as he could to the train station, he encountered a group of dogs blocking his way. They suddenly ran after him and because of that, he had to take a longer route to avoid them. Finally, after 15 minutes he reached the train station at 7.30 a.m. He had only 30 more minutes left to reach his workplace on time, but the train he needed to take would arrive at 7.45 a.m.

"Oh, come on! I'm going to be late!" He sighed loudly when he saw the train schedule. People around him turned to look and wondered what had happened and why he suddenly shouted.

"What are you looking at, ha? You never saw someone late to go to work, ha?" He was pissed when he realized people were looking at him. He sat on the floor to rest after he ran like the world would end, took a deep breath, and tried to wait patiently. The train arrived on time but the train was overcrowded. Without thinking twice, he chooses to get into the crowd. He was squeezed between the crowd until he suffocated.

 Chiyoda, Tokyo - Hisao's workplace.

"He's late. He has never been late. What's the matter with him? Urrggh, did you smell it? He's stinks! Is he not taking a shower? Oh my, what is the smell??"Hisao arrived at Chiyoda train station at 8 a.m. and at that time he was already late. He ran to his workplace without taking a breath. However, when he arrived all his colleagues stared and whispered to each other. He feels so embarrassed and awkward because he can hear them whisper very clearly.

"WATANABE HISAO!! YOU ARE LATE!! GET INTO MY ROOM, RIGHT NOW!!" Suddenly, he boss out of his room called him out loud, and asked him to come to his room right away after he saw he was late.

"Oh, gosh! I'll be dead." He felt scared and slaked when he saw his boss mad like a lunatic. He tries to take a deep breath and calm himself before getting into his boss's room.

"Oh, gosh! What is the smell, Watanabe? Are you not taking a shower today?" When he got into his boss's room, his boss straightly asked him why he smelled so awful.

"I'm sorry Mr. Hiroshi. I promise it won't happen again." He asked for forgiveness from his boss. However, Mr. Hiroshi still scolded him and gave a lecture to him for almost an hour. After the lecture, he continued his work and met his clients but things became worse when the clients started to complain about his attitude and body odor. He became anxious and mad and ended up getting into a fight with the clients. Due to that situation, Mr. Hiroshi was so furious, that he gave Hisao a warning and asked him to leave early. That day, he became so anxious and depressed, a feeling he never felt before. He kept asking himself why.

 "Why?"

 "Why?"

 "Why?"

As he walked home, he kept saying the same word repeatedly.

On his way home, Hisao stops at the convenience store to buy beers to release his stress on that day because he feels so depressed and upset. On that day, he got very drunk, and he started mumbling to himself, appearing to be quite angry and cursing everything in front of him. However, after all the mumbling and cursing, he finally fell asleep on his bed when he got home.

The following day, things took a turn for the worse. Hisao woke up very late at 9 a.m. but he didn't panic or rush like before, he even not bother to shower or change his clothes. He's only grabbed his bag and headed out for work. Despite feeling lacking energy and having a headache from all the beers he drank last night, he still feels that he needs to go to work. His body odor had worsened for two days since he had last showered or changed clothes. The beers he drank last night had made his breath worse, and people began to stare at him due to his unpleasant smell. However, he ignored their reactions and didn't care about what they thought or said. All he wanted was to go to work. He arrived at his workplace at 10 a.m. and noticed people were staring and talking about him. However, he didn't bother anymore and just ignored all the people around him and he only proceeded to sit on his chair and start his computer.

"Hisaaoo! Get into my room right now!" Mr. Hiroshi looks like a madman who feels so pissed off. Hisao looked at him with an expressionless face while Mr. Hiroshi glared at him with so much anger. He got up from his seat and went to Mr. Hiroshi's room with so helpless.

"What the heck, Hisao? What happened to you? You started coming late to work and got into a fight with the client. Your smell is so awful. Did you not smell yourself, Hisao? Do you not take a shower or brush your teeth? What are you thinking? Are you out of your mind?? Hhhmmm… Look, I can't handle this anymore, Hisao. You used to be one of my best employees and I like you a lot, but now you seem so hopeless and useless. I don't know what to do with you and I don't care what's going on in your personal life, but I still care about you, Hisao. How about if you take some time off to release your stress and deal with your problems? Come back when you're feeling better and can be my competent employee again." Mr. Hirsohi began nagging at Hisao as soon as he entered the room while his nose and mouth with his coat to avoid Hisao's odor. Mr. Hiroshi sighed heavily criticized Hisao's and suggested he take the day off until he can work again.

Hisao remained silent when he listened to Mr. Hiroshi babbling at him. Without any words, he turned away from Mr. Hiroshi and left the room without any noise. He picked up his bag from the desk and left as if nothing had happened. Feeling helpless, he stopped at a bar and continued drinking. He keeps drinking more and more until he feels so drunk. He had been drinking until midnight. While he was unconscious, he started making a noise and bothered others at the bar. He also tried to commit a sexual assault on the women at the bar and got into a fight with people. People started to feel annoyed and pissed with him and dragged him out of the bar. He felt so mad and started babbling to himself while he walked away from the bar.

"What is he babbling about?" People around started staring and whispering to each other about his behavior.

"What are you guys looking at?" He shouted when he overheard people talking about him. However, he felt so helpless and tired, so he stopped in front of the convenience store and fell asleep there.
